Hello Everyone,

I started a new job a few weeks ago, were I meat a German girl. She told me she is in a dilemma and those not know what to do.

I told here I will post her problem on this Forum and see if some one can give her Information regarding her problem. This Forum has helped me so much when I went through my Adjustment of status, so I'm hopeful you can help her.

She is the daughter of an American Air force soldier and a German mom. He was stationed in Spain were she was born. At one point her parents split up. The mother moved back to Germany with the daughter. Father came back to the USA. She grew up in Germany and 6 years ago at age 17 moved in with her dad in Florida. She has a German passport that stats that she is also an America citizen (because her dad is American???). In the USA she got her SS card and all the ID’s. A few years ago all her stuff got stolen except of her Passport and Birth certificate. Unfortunately her passport is expired and so when she went to renew her Id’s and SS card they told her she can only receive it with prove of American citizen ship and a valid passport.

She has no idea what do. So my questions are.

How can she get a new Passport from Germany?

What document can she fill out that verifies that she is an American citizen?

What are her options??

Her father is not helping her. She is currently out of contact with her mother. Any input is greatly appreciated. Thank you

Was she born on a US military base? Was her birth recorded with the US embassy in Spain? Records obtain from a US entity would easily prove her US citizenship.

Here is some resource from the US embassy in London.

Yes she was born on an Air force Base in Spain.

Her Spain Birth certificat has a signature of an Ambassador on it. If that helps.

Also when she came to the USA her dad went to the SS office and obtained her SS number before she came over.

Could she contact the Air force and recive any proof of her birth on an American base??

Should she try to get a new German passport or could she even get a USA Passport??

A German passport is not going to prove her US citizenship. SS# will not get prove it either.

Her best evidence is her birth certificate. The military should have records and it appears that her birth was registered with the US embassy in Spain as an Ambassador signed it. Contact the Air Force and the US embassy in Spain.

If her birth was registered with the US embassy, she can just go get a US passport.
