How often does the US Embassy in Moscow update their interview schedule? How long does it take after your K-1 petition leaves NVC to get an interview date? Do you get a letter from NVC when they forward it to the Embassy? Does the Embassy send you anything or just your fiancee packet 3/4? Thanks and have a great day.

This is a great site for the interview dates in numberical order. http://www.tenthgen.com/Visa.aspx However, it has not been updated in a while. I have to check the Embassy site at http://moscow.usembassy.gov/consular/iv_dates.php

The Embassy in Moscow updates their interview schedule sporadically. Supposedly they do it once a week on Mondays, but I've actually seen them update it 2 or 3 times in one week, and also I've seen them go up to 2 weeks or more without updating it!

It does not take long after your petition leaves the NVC for you to get an interview date. Mine only took about two weeks. I did not get any letter from the NVC. I did call them and found out on the telephone when they received my petition and when they sent it on to Moscow.

The Embassy will not send anything to you. They will mail packet 3/4 to your fiancee quite promptly. Mine received her packet within about a week of the Embassy receiving our paperwork.

I've found that the Embassy is fairly reliable and prompt about responding to e-mail. If you e-mail them with a question they generally respond within a day or two.

Hope this helps,

James

Updated about once a month. I've noticed K-1's typically take 6 weeks or so to make it there, but this can vary. You do get a letter from the NVC. Embassy will send you nothing.

Since your NOA 2 date is after March 6th (IMBRA start date) your interview may take a little longer to set up.

The website updates on an irregular schedule, so just check it from time-to-time. One day you'll be looking at it, and your case number will be there!

IMBRA (International Marriage Broker Regulation Act) has been messing up a lot of interview dates in Moscow. There are several people on here who had interview dates already, then got cancelled because IMBRA took effect. Not trying to scare you, it's just going to add a little extra time on to the processing. Most of us on here got our interview dates within two weeks or so from NVC, and the actual dates were two months or so out from then. Now, it seems like it's taking a month or two from NVC then another couple of months from Moscow.

It really looks like the rules changed and they're playing catch-up now to get everything back in order. Once they do that, you should be OK. Just keep on checking. Good luck!

Hi John,

Evidently, some get a hardcopy confirmation from the NVC and some do not.

One VJer who has a Case Number very close to mine, receipt at the NVC same as mine, and reported on live phone calls with the NVC to have left the NVC on the same date received hardcopy on the opposite coast two days after the NVC reported it being sent. I have no hardcopy.

I've sent emails to both the NVC and Moscow; Moscow doesn't have a record of it; I'm waiting on the reply from the NVC.

You might try emailing both the NVC and the Embassy requesting confirmation.

They'll want your case, your name, beneficiary's name.

Here's hoping you find out soon it's there!

Thanks for the information. I will write to confirm where it may be. If NVC forwarded the K-1 Petition on May 12, would they have not completed the full IMBRA investigations before forwarding it to the US Embassy in Moscow? I thought they called back a number of K-1's that slipped through the crack back in March.

John,

Check the Embassy's web site: http://moscow.usembassy.gov/consular/iv_dates.php

I'll be willing to bet yours is already scheduled for around July 19 or 20.

They just updated the site 6/6/06 to 8/6/06.

Let us know if you're there!

Larry,

Thanks. I have been going to that site daily. With the recent update, there are numbers before ours and numbers after ours, but not our number. I have not written to the Embassy yet, but I may later this week. She has a visa to travel to the US which is good for two years. She was here twice last year. I met her on her second visit and I went to see her in January and we became engaged. Whenever our number shows up, it will more than likely be for an August interview. Our petition left NVC on May 12 - telephone confirmation. Good luck to all of you. Our time will come and we will eventually be together.

Have a great day.

She has a sister here in the US she came to visit. He sister married a US citizen four years ago. She was here two times last year. The second time is when I met her when she came to see me in my hometown. We had only been corresponding and it was a meeting of sight unseen. I had seen some pictures, but I was apprehensive about meeting her. Everything turned out great. I went to see her in January and we got engaged.

John, can you explain the process a little more in-depth about your (soon-to-be) sister-in-law's visa application for your fiancee? Elena has a sister who is only 28, so I'm sure she'll want to come here for a "visit" or two in the next couple of years. (That, and I've already promised about half of my friends "sure, I'll hook you up with her sister...")

What type of visa was it, how and when did they apply (in relation to their own AOS, etc.) and just more on the general process and possibilities. Thanks.

(It will give you something to do in the mean time while you're waiting for the Moscow site to update!)

Larry and Marta,

Thanks. I just saw it and we are on there. It sure took a long time for them to update. I hate that it is so far out into the future, but at least we do have an interview date. Hopefully, it will not be cancelled and the petiton returned for some reason or another. We were not affected by IMBRA to my knowledge. Have a great day.

slim,

This is the information I have about my Fiancee's Visa. Her sister and her sister's husband sent her and invitation in 2004. She prepared documents and sent them to the Embassy. She then had an interview at the Embassy in Moscow and she received a two year visa. She paid $200 for the visa and $50 for postage. This was her response to my questions. Sorry I don't have the form numbers or more information. I don't know how long the process took either. I will ask her again and see if I can fill in some of the voids. I hope this may help. At least I know that she knows where the Embassy is located for her K-1 visa. :-) I

Thanks John.

I know what it's like to try to get "specifics" of the whole VJ process. If your conversations are anything like mine on the phone, just a "she got the visa by filling out papers" is good enough. That way, at least we know there are papers!!! I'll see if I can google it or maybe find out a little more in another forum. It's still going to be a little while before we fill anything out for her sister (she's not even here yet!) so if you find anything more specific out in the mean time, let me know.

And yes, having been to the embassy already is definitely a good thing for your fiancee. If she's been through one successful visa interview, this one should be a snap! Good luck to both of you!
