My opinion on this is that its not as big of a deal as people think. Saying this , I will explain

I have 3 daughters , 14 almost 17 and 29 so I have been doing this for a long time My oldest was very sporty so didnt care about thongs and padded bras lol , plus they wasnt so popular back then, My youngest is ewwww over thongs and padded bras as she thinks they are nasty and sticks with the granny panties and regular bras.. Now my middle child was wearing thongs and padded bras at age 11. At first I was like NOWAY is this going to happen and she of course couldnt understand why I would say this as they sell them in her size at the store LOL.. I thought alot about it and then decided that if I make a big deal out of this then she would find other ways to do it , either through a friend or maybe even her older sister so On her birthday I bought her a couple of pair of thongs and she loved them, was more comfortable etc and same with the padded bra, I mean comeon who wants to wear a lacy itchy bra when you can have soft and comfortable.

I think people make to much out of this really... If your daughter is wearing them to be sexy and go out on the town and show it off then helll yeah there is a problem but if she is wearing them because they look good to her and comfortable then go for it.

I will also add that my daughter that wanted the thongs and padded bras at age 11 , is almost 17 now.. is still a virgin , has never been out on a date and is a good girl who stays home and watches movies with her mom

Thanks for sharing that, Chelle. I don't see how a thong was designed for comfort for any age. Thong underwear was first lingerie that became mainstream. How could anyone say they wear it for comfort? I realize it now goes hand in hand with more form fitting slacks but seriously, the whole purpose of underwear is to keep the body dry down there and a thong just doesn't function that way. I totally disagree.. completely.. most comfortable thing in the world is a well fitted thong.. would NEVER go back.. the other two things are a side issue.. low riding thongs rock (and LOW being key.. i HATE it when the strings can be seen)..

Apparently I've not found the right thong then. I can't stand wearing the things. They have to be the most uncomfortable things I've ever worn in my life. I'd much rather have a cute boy short. At least they aren't riding up my @ss all day.

well talking about undergarments on the internet is not really something I do every day.. but since you asked.. it's still serving a function, the thong bit is at the back... for example they have feminine products that will fit a thong.. do a google search..

I'm a mom of 2 girls, ages 11 and 12.

I disagree with buying a girl that age a thong. Luckily my daughters haven't asked me for one. As a matter of fact when they see them they go "eeeew...that looks uncomfortable!".

For the padded bra I'll just say this......when a girl is too self consious about what will happen when it gets cold *cough*, a padded bra is most definitely in order. The idea is not to pad it so that it looks like they have more than they do, it's to conceal.

Well I guess my point is that it's all in what you are conditioned for.. I saw my mum's gran undies and figured that's what underwear looks like.. I personally now use thongs, so if i had a daughter I would think she would think thongs were really not that weird anyway or the sole purpose of them was trying to attract attention to myself.... So I dunno that it's that big of a deal.. I think the thing that disturbs me about kids wearing thongs is that the clothing they wear on TOP of the thongs, reveal the fact that they ARE wearing a thong. Advertising it, is not cool for me. I shake my head when I see the strings from a thong sticking out.. THAT's the place I would say.. honey, no need to advertise to the world that you are a thong girl.. keep it discrete.. that is FAR more sexy IMO.

I disagree lol... I find thongs very comfy and more freedom, I dont have to worry about a wedgie or fixing my panties every time I stand up. For me its the comfortable part of them, I dont feel sexy in them as I am not a model figure so nothing works that way for me but we all have our own opinions and it is fun to see what we all think

My daughter is 9. She hasn't asked for thongs, thankfully. And the answer would be a resounding no! if she did. She did want a bikini, to whcih i compromised and got her a tankini. I don't think young girls she be exposing their bodies.

As for bras, well, I don't agree with padded at such a young age. This year my daughter is taking health class (4th grade) and the nurse who teaches it told all the girls to ask mom to buy them bras as they should be wearing them by now. I don't necessarily agree that girls without breast development should be wearing bras, but we went out and got some sport bras. I figure she should be comfortable.

I really think the clothes for gilrs today are very trashy. I don't see what's so wriong with letting little girls be little girls. But with role models like Hannah Montana, what can you expect, I guess?

Ok, don't these moms that get thongs for their young daughters even THINK about the hygiene issue? Thongs when they move drag bacteria from one hole to another = infection. I'm not going to give my kid something that they shouldn't be wearing anyways that I know will probs give them a very uncomfortable infection and cost me $$. Totally agree about the sexy clothes. If the kid is wearing a bra or whatever, fine, but no low cut pants and tops. I babysat this girl once. She was 5 and her mom had her a bra already. So messed up!

I guess my main issue with parents buying their kids this stuff is discipline. I'm sure that a lot of the moms are like Emancipation and get them the clothes but discipline their child. Lots however give in to their kids and this is just a sign of that.

I feel sorry for the geeky/nerdy/'unattractive' girls growing up in this culture - it was bad enough in the 70s but at least then you could get away with wearing one of those Brady Bunch striped rugby shirts and Levis and a Dorothy Hamill haircut... At that age I was more interested in looking at bugs under a microscope, watching birds or collecting rocks(I haven't changed) and I was the pariah kid that everybody harassed for my coke-bottle glasses and general awkwardness...If I had worn kinderwhore clothes I would have been even more comical than I already was. We are teaching girls that the only thing that matters is a narrowly defined sexual attractiveness, if you are smart but not 'pretty' then you are worthless - worse than the culture of the '50s in a way.

Don't.... they grow up to get the better jobs and boss Barbie around... :devil: ask Melinda Gates or even Condie Rice.... or me
