I made the roast broccoli and though it does taste good the texture is not what I like broccoli to be. I like it to still be very crisp.

Start with raw broccoli, no blanching and higher heat on the roast.

Multiple choices ok?
  • cucumbers (allergic to these)
  • chayote (not allergic, but dislike)
  • artichokes (haven't tried, cannot figure how to prepare)

Artichokes are awesome!!

They are pretty easy to prepare- cut off the stem and pull off a few bottom leaves. Cut about 1/2 inch off the top. I take scissors and cut the pointy tips of the leaves. Rinse it well and tip it to drain then I drizzle it with lemon juice because the cut parts turn brown quick. I put it a steamer stem side down and steam for about 45 minutes. I usually steam my veggies with chicken broth.

To eat- pull off the leaves- scrape the inside (white part) with your bottom teeth and when you get to the choke, scrape the little fibrous hairy things with a spoon and then eat the rest.

I like mine plain but you can dip the leaves and choke in a dressing.

"Corn smut is a disease of maize caused by the pathogenic plant fungus Ustilago maydis."

"Considered a pest in most of the United States, smut feeds off the corn plant and decreases the yield. Usually smut-infected crops are destroyed. Some farmers may also choose to prepare corn silage out of the smutted corn. However, in Mexico corn smut is called huitlacoche, sometimes spelled cuitlacoche), a Nahuatl word reportedly meaning raven's excrement. It is considered a delicacy, even being preserved and sold for a higher price than corn."

omg...

dare i ask what that tastes like?

Doh! Not yet. We found a place awhile ago that serves it, but when we drove there, they were already closed. Thanks for reminding me....I'll look around for a place near work in LA and maybe go there for lunch. :)

Well, the photo is not helping, but the description does. How about Tempeh, fermented soybean cakes? Although unattractive sounding, it is awesome fried and sautéed in a spicy Indonesian paste (consisting of: Shallots, garlic, hot chilies, salt, pepper, galangal and other spices...etc....)

Like Welshie, I havne't found a veggie I don't like. I love beets and neeps.

Mind you, I can't imagine why anyone wants to know what I like or don't like either. I'm not even the president...

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

I'm not a big fan of the fermented soybean thing.. In a chinese restaurant here, I had some braised cow tongue with some fermented soybean marinade or broth or something.. not great, at least to me..
