See? Its all about context. We can't get blamed for associating with beets out of context.

BTW... are beets still a majority source for refined sugar in the US?

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

Damn I think this article is giving HAL 9000 weekend dining ideas. Frontera Grill IS pretty nice, even though if the Obamas asked me to take them to a little more authentic Mexican I'd take them to Pilsen to a great place called Cocula on Cermak and California.

As for beets... I tolerate them. In small amounts it makes a normal potato salad completely awesome. And Pink.

Bro Hal-ster.... I've never been to Frontera OR Topoloboma...but I really want to go to both.

HEY... where have you found a really good Colombian place in the city???

Hey sister... I've been to a couple of places.

I do NOT recommend the Las Tablas on Lincoln. Overseasoned meat (cuts do not match traditional meats in CO), VERY LOUD gringos yelling over their food... and too pricey for such an environment.

Farther north on Lincoln (3941 N) there is a place called El Llano which is awesome and a lot more authentic. I might even go there with the Mrs on Saturday. Shhh, its a surprise for her and a friend that's staying for the weekend.

Thanks! I've heard of both of those places, but I'll stay away from Las Tablas. I've also been interested in THIS place.

Have fun this weekend!!!

:P

Las Tablas is owned by a Paisa.

BTW, SF... El Llano is supposed to specialize in carne llanera... beef that follows the grilled tendencies of the rest of the continent's lowlands.

Last time I ate a bandeja I made the mistake of taking a Copetran bus from Bogotá to Bucaramanga. Haven't had a bandeja ever since.

That place SF mentioned has aguapanela con limón.

Mmmmmmm

You can go to La Única on Devon (1515 W) and buy frozen Yuca there... fry at home with salt for seasoning... or to the Mexican groceries and buy raw. Peel the skin away and its the same drill in delicious fried food.

I usually put lime on them and then the salt.

Yeah, bandeja paisas are not for weak stomachs. They're time consuming to make but so worth it.

REALLLLLLLY???????????????????????????????????? I knew there had to be a place to get it; I just didn't pursue it.

I predict yuca frites in the Fracas household within a week!

Always to serve, Sister!

I've seen raw yuca at Cermak Produce stores. And I also think at La Única... being a South American grocery store.

Best of luck! Make sure to remove the hard fibers inside and to cut them wedge-style. Leftovers should be reheated in the oven and yum!!

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

I personally don't like the raw yuca roots they sell here in the US, not very good quality. But I've had great luck with the frozen GOYA yuca they sell in the latino grocery stores. Very good quality and you can keep it in your freezer for a very long time.

Diana

Can Hal and I come over to your house?

Dude, making that thing takes too much time. How about you buy it and bring it over?
