Dude you hate GM because you are sad about the EV1. Get over it geeezz.

Actually, I don't want to bail out GM for the incompetency in their decision making process. I actually use the "conservative" mindset of not rewarding failure. Funny how conservatives here disagree with me on this.

Call me old fashion but I don't want to see American industries fail. The auto industry is also not some Google with 20,000 employees.

Bailout does not mean free money. It means the government basically providing access to cash or guaranteeing loans for the manufacturers. Loans which will need to be paid back.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

There's a lot of irony here.

Last I checked, no Republicans in the Senate supported this. Hence why nothing in Congress has been done so far, and its very possible nothing will happen. Recent news.

The irony though is in political debate BBS's (old fashioned) I go to where pretty much ZERO conservatives support this. It's only on this forum that they all seem to, and for one reason alone -- the "American" factor. Most conservatives on the "free market" ideology at least are consistent in that if a business fails then it should have failed and let another company take it's place.

Even being against the free market entirely, having an understanding of business and economics, it's difficult to argue with that.

PS -- glad you decided to rejoin the discussion. :P

You're in marketing, right?

And you say GM made incompetent marketing decisions, right?

I'm scratching my head over this one. Americans couldn't get ENOUGH of SUV's.

Was GM incompetent for manufacturing what the American public wanted?

Is Congress incompetent for not following the every whim of the American people? Not by this standard.

Some people were able to think ahead. GM HAD thought ahead. That's why they made the EV1 in the first place. They decided to can it in favor of the oil industry. What happens? Toyota and Honda take their place on this market, and they are already on top for pure ICE vehicles with decent mileage. Forward thinkers, and innovators, is what we need succeeding in our marketplace. Not stubborn pick-pocketers who favor stifling the very market innovation that ultimately benefits the consumers.

I'm not one of the people to target SUVs specifically because there isn't one single kind of them. There's normal SUVs, like the Durango, or the Lexus RX300 series. Then there's the ridiculous ones, like the Yukon, Expedition, Sierra, Excursion, and the AmericanFlagXXXXL version. The people who bought those already paid for it, so there's no need to beat them up any further, but now GM is wanting to put their hands in our pockets for their mistakes. I'm not falling for it.

People may call me Socialist, people may call me whatever, but one thing I understand is you can't have fiscal responsibility, and you cannot have technological innovation, when you bail out companies, wasting taxpayer money, on those who actively engage in strategically stopping progress in these regards. Face it, GM bowed out to the oil industry wanting to make people more reliant upon oil. Is there anyone here who wants to dub this a conspiracy theory? OPEC right now is soiling themselves because oil prices are low. They were jumping for joy as our gas prices went to $5.00/gallon here in CA. GM helped these people. And this suggestion is bail them out for it? I will repeat it yet again. #### GM.
