Impressed wasn't the word we were using at the time!

Definitely an acquired taste.

I doubt the 2 million people in the auto industry have my education.

I also doubt those amount of jobs would disappear overnight, if there's even that many in this state in that industry. Why? Because cars would not disappear off the roads, and would not stop bring produced. The world doesn't begin and end with GM. Although, that would be a great marketing campaign for a bailout.

You really are full of yourself, aren't you?

Oh, you mean not being apocalyptic, like yourself? Yeah, being realistic is quite a drag.

See what happens with no auto industry. You and your cohorts may get your wish.

Not sure what gas prices were in early 2006, but when we first went looking to buy one at that time, there was at least a 3-6 month waiting list at the local dealership, and you had to put $500 down to be on the list.

Not because demand was sky high, but because supply was artificially low. They knew who their demographic was, and that they'd be "impressed" by the long waits. They were right.

Not many were being built for the US market at the time. It was a niche vehicle. It still isn't a high volume car for Toyota.

I don't know many going for the base model Prius, so looking at closer to over $25,000, it's not going to sell more than any other car when they're averaging $10K - $15K. While people are going well over their means for houses, they seem to be doing much better with cars.

The average price of a new car in the US is ~$25,000.

So GM owns Audi, Ford, Toyota, Honda, and all the other car companies? :o

I clearly overlooked this.

Do they employ as many US workers as GM? And Ford isn't much better off than GM. Of course you'll say ** them too, along with Chrysler. You didn't overlook this, you don't look very far at all.

Ironically, I've said something in this topic which completely contradicts your assumption, given certain vehicles they make.

Which car company employs the most people on US soil?

Maybe the same company that's about to employ the least?

That's my point. Where are all of these workers going to get jobs?

Time to start deporting some illegals.

You keep insisting it's no big deal for GM and the US makers to go out of business. Who is going to employ the 2 million+ affected workers? What happens to the booming economy we currently have with a few more million unemployed? Does Toyota have the facilioties here to take on a few hundred thousand workers? How about Honda or Hyundai? Look past the end of your nose to see what would actually happen.

What booming economy? My nose doesn't see past the recession we're already in.

Many people warned that Bush's tax cuts to the rich going long term this would fck up our economy. No one listened. Sometimes you have to learn lessons the hard way. Since conservatives liked, while we've been exporting middle class jobs overseas, to tout how we're gaining jobs (of course these being RETAIL), maybe we can open up a few thousand Wal-Marts. Then "unemployment" won't be so bad. They'll all have jobs.

You're not smart enough to sense the sarcasm about the "booming economy? Wow. You avoid the question. What happens with no US auto industry? What are the consequences? Forget about Bush. You say too bad if over 2 million lose their jobs. Obviously they aren't as smart as you. You are so far above everyone else that a depression won't affect your life. What about the tens of millions who don't live up to your standards?

You never really specified who these 2 million people are. I think now's a good time before I tear your argument to shreds once more.

Ahh so that's what happened! It wasn't the subprime mortgage crisis that fukced up our economy - it was the Bush tax cuts!

Somebody call Bernanke and Paulson! All they have to do is raise taxes and the economy will fix itself! LOL

Evidently those lower wages people had which made it difficult to pay off their silly ARMs wasn't due to a long term tax increase. Jesus H Christ we have another winner here. Call Darwin. He has an award to present.

Dude, do you even understand what you're saying? It's so dumb, one would think you'd be embarrassed to utter it.
