maybe thay can compare the strain of the HIV virus to that convicted. i saw that done in CSI.. they were able to prove that the man was the suspect when the victim's blood splashed in his eyes. the virus entered the eyes which has many vessels.

Until that day arrives, I suggest folks avoid male2male sex and shooting drugs.

20 years later these are still the vast majority of new cases. (though these groups make up a small fraction of the Population as a whole)

High risk hetro sex only accounts for about 15% of new cases, even though many more people are in this group.

I can still remember when AIDS was a big topic 20 years ago and we were told that it would spread like wildfire through the straight community. Now, it's not a major issue and I dont' think a lot of younger people worry about it- at least compared to 20 years ago.

But in Wednesday's ruling, judges said while the victims all had HIV, it could not be proven that they were infected by the injections because they willingly took part in orgies where gay men had unprotected sex.The suspects were not charged with attempted murder since Dutch courts have held that HIV is a chronic illness rather than an inevitably fatal one.

Sure, because HIV is nothing more than an annoyance like a cold

Go to love those liberal European courts. I am surprised they didn't jail the victims or accuse them of asking for it.

It would be the US who would jail the victims for taking part in a involving more than just a Man and a Woman.

At least if you lived in a red state anyway.

When has that happened? Who is seriously suggesting that it should?

And it shouldn't matter whether the victims had HIV beforehand; it was the intent of these creatures to give the victims HIV.

But if it can't be proven that the injections infected them (since they'd been involved in the unprotected sex orgies)... SHOULD they be charged with attempted murder?

Oddly enough one of the results of lengthening life and improving the health of those infected

would be the ability of more sexual contacts, leading to wider spread.

A cure would be the real answer.

(herpes is another story)

To put it bluntly-

Unprotected ####### sex increases transmission probability because it increases the amount of microscopic tears in the skin and the inferior intestinal mucosa compared to unprotected vaginal sex. If heterosexuals infected with HIV also performed unprotected ####### sex, the transmission rates would be the same as homosexuals.

HIV itself does not discriminate more in favor of gay men.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

I remember hearing that it's harder for women to give men HIV too. I know at one point it wasn't considered possible for women to transmit HIV to men, obviously we know better now, I don't know if it's still rarer in general. Either way, if transmission tends to be one way (men to women) that alone would significantly cut down the hetro risk a LOT. This site indicates that men are less likely to get HIV from women than women are from men... and uh... even if I know they are exagerating vague statistics to be more shocking, some of the statistics still scare the ####### out of me... you know the movie the 40 year old virgin... yeah... the story of american's born and raised during the aid's awareness campaigns in the US (ok, most of the people I met over 20 who were virgins either had severe self image issues or had religious reasons).

I'd put statistics aside since transmission can occur in one single event. Both ways.

I'm not saying it doesn't occur both ways, but if it has reduced chances that would slow the spread significantly vs gay men who can each easily spread HIV and easily receive it, a small difference can result in exponential results.

It'd be nice if we had a cure for aids... nicer if we had a cure for cancer... and if we had a cure for stupid... WOO HOO! Wait... don't cure stupid, I don't want the internet to have a shortage of video's of people doing really stupid things, and paying the price (and entertaining the rest of us in doing so).

If someone has accidentally poisoned themselves with a slow-acting but fatal poison, and then someone who is ignorant of this knocks them out and gives them another lethal dose of the poison, should that person not be charged with attempted murder, since he wasn't the first to poison the victim?

Of course I ask the question:

How was it Author Ashe and Magic Johnson both were carriers but their wives never caught it? (that I know of)

Before we get too Confident that Aids is safely in the ** wing of the Gay community... it might be interesting to note that in Africa there is full blown Aids across the board, and whats even more

of interest to us is in the USA, those of African decent are the fastest growing demographic of new cases.

I read some stats on Washington DC and the numbers were unreal.

Some questions jump to mind; Why is this happening?

While Aids is spreading in other places.... it seems to remain in the Gay or sex worker or Drug shooter groups.... except in Africa... does anyone know why?

Why are African decent people in the USA also spreading at such high rates?

Are these genetic issues, social practices.... or what?

If I get really bored, I will see if I can dig up some numbers I read before ..... without checking I don't want to post incorrect data.

I don't know about here in america, but there are entirely too many stories of gang rapes of women (that seem to go largely unpunished) and the other kind of story I hear a lot that probably has a lot to do with it, even the leader of the country considers a shower after sex with someone known to have aids as a fail safe method of not catching HIV... sure I had sex with a prostitute known to have AIDs, but I took a shower after!?! And as brought up in this thread already, the myth of having sex with a virgin will cure someone with AID's... that sounds like a good way to insure that you spread AID's to as many people as possible, starting with.... all the virgins... so poor AID's awareness probably has a LOT to do with it, once it reaches an epidemic level it's kind of hard to avoid... like HPV in america (and a large number of other places).

But why the same thing happens in america I have no idea.

But that is the difference.... the poison is fatal, but the HIV virus is not. I'm not saying there shouldn't be a very stiff penalty, but I don't think the charge should be attempted murder. Contracting the virus does not mean certain death.
