Today was my interview and here is how it went:

My appointment was at 10:00 so we got there at 9:30. My wife and my two kids came with me since my application was based on my marriage. It was a very small office and therefore there were may be 8 to 10 people there but half of them came for something else I guess they had an infopass. There was only one IO (Interviwing Officer) doing the interview at the time I got there till the time I got call so at 10: she called the 9 o'clock appointment this last for about 30 minutes than the 9:40 appt was called and 15 minutes or less I was called around 10:30. My 3 year old went to use the bathroom so when I got call, my wife and her were not around so I told the IO my wife is taking care of my little daughter and that she will be right back should we wait for her she just told me that's ok you can come when they come out the security officer can just escort to the interview room. So, As soon as I got in, the IO told me not to sit down yet but raise my right hand and swear to tell the truth. After that, she went through the usual questions: Have you supported any terrorists organizations etc... which of course to all of them I said no and then she asks would I be willing to bear arm for the US if required, work for the US government ect... to which I said yes!

She basically went through my file with me and then said now we going to start with the test to which I added that: This is the fun part and she laughed. Herr a re the questions I was asked:

1-What is one responsibility of a us Citizen?

2- How do you call the ocean on the West coast?

3- HOw old do you have to be to vote?

4- What happened on sep 11 to the United States?

after that she told me to read: How many senators are there? and then I had to write: There are one hundred senators. Everything was going well 'till she said I have some biographic info to fill out since you have been in the military according to what she sees on the computer. I told her that I have never been enlisted in the military and that I did not even put that in my application! She said they might have been confused since I was registered for the selective service. She said she can not make a decision now but they will contact me in uo to 3 months for the result. She gave a paper saying I passed the english and US History and government and checked B) A decision cannot be made about your application. Since she has to investigate a little bit more on that.

Needless to says I had at least 100 pictures one album filled with our wedding pictures and one envelop from Walmart filled with different pictures of me and my wife and other family members and also I had a big suitcase full of documents she did not ask me for nothing but my passport, driver's license. She asked for my Selective Service card but she found out I had sent a copy of it. The whole thing lasted about 15 minutes and no the security guard did not escort my wife to the interview room, so her and the kids were waiting on the lobby. thanks for each and everyone's support! I will give you guys and update as soon as it become available.

I am pretty confident that everything is and will be alright but it is just very funny though, how do you prove you were not in the US military? I guess there is nothing I can do with that but wait for them. What do you guys think?

That's weird.... I haven't heard of this one before. HOopefully everything will work out soon.

On another note, my wife got her passport... so ALL paperwork is done now!! Well except for that we have to get Visas for India now.... :) Yippie!:dance::dance:

I completed my interview this morning. It was uneventful - a little bit of an anticlimax, to be honest!

I arrived 20 minutes early, and the waiting room had five or six couples there. They all seemed to be waiting for their interviews - studying the test questions etc. I waited while each was called up before me. Their interviews appeared to last about 15 minutes, and no spouses were allowed.

Word to the wise - don't try and "smuggle" a cell phone in. I turned mine onto silent mode because I wanted to check email while I was waiting. The security guard asked me whether I had any electronic devices on me. I said no. Then he asked me to step through the metal detector, and sure enough, beep beep beep. I put my hand in my pocket and pulled out the phone and pretended that I "forgot" it was there, but it was obvious that I was lying. Made me feel like a #######.

My name was called. I went back to the interview room with a very friendly official. Lots of small talk. Then she put me under oath and we went very quickly through the usual questions, confirming the things on my application. No issues whatsoever. She joked about my "criminal record", which consisted of everything I could think of - ancient speeding tickets, parking tickets etc. There is no harm in overdisclosing!

She examined my passport to confirm a few dates of entry to the US, just to confirm that I really hadn't been out for more than 6 months at a time.

Then she asked me the test questions and stopped after I got 6 correct. There were a good mix of questions about the constitution (about 2), some history (perhaps 2) and some general US things. I don't remember which questions they asked, but I do recall that they weren't from any particular category (like all about the constitution or something).

The reading and writing test was simple. For anyone who has even an elementary grasp of English, it's very simple.

And that was it. I signed my photos and she told me that I had passed. There was never any time in the entire process where I felt she was looking for fraud, but perhaps that's because I've been in the US for over a decade and have been married to a US citizen for longer than that - I guess the fraudulent applications come from those people who filed 90 days before the 3 year marriage anniversary and who are doing everything they can to get through the process as quickly as possible. If I wanted to commit fraud, I guess I would have done it ten years ago.

I was truly hoping for a same-day oath, but she handed me a form that said I was going to an oath ceremony on the 22nd of May. Yay, but that's almost 2 months away and I had really expected this to be over within the next couple of weeks at the latest. Oh well.

I'm still happy to be all-but-done, and now it's a case of staying on the right side of the law until the 22nd!

Great LP,

You might want to consider getting OCI card which cost around $300 bucks instead of visa, with OCI card no visa needed to visit india for lifetime. Plus she can stay there as long as she wants without any limitation.

Think abou it.

As an unpdate to the below post!

I called USCIS on Friday just a day after the interview and I was told by an immigration officer officer that they are reviewing my interview that was around 10:00 AM so I called back at 6:00 PM the same day and lo and belo the IO sais congratulations! You case has been approved and you are in being put queue for the oath. I called this morning to make sure I had the heard right and yes I am right! I am getting to the end of the journey! Thanks to all of you! Just remenber if you ever call concerning your N-400 insist on talking to an immigration officer if not they will make you go crazy thinking there is no activities at all. I am thankful to God and thankful to y'all and I committed to help others as well!

Thursday March 26, 2009 was my interview day and here is how it went:

Haiti:

Congratulations - a long road but the end is worth it.

Thank you forum members and my thread members of November 2008 for all the support during the process.

Congrats to Haiti for approval of the case.

I had my interview. Its approved and I am scheduled for Oath on Friday at 11 AM. Got the letter same day.

The interview was pretty straight forward with mostly going over the application and the 6 questions were asked from the new test.

The IO was very professional.

Just 2 question to forum members done with their Oath...

1. What we need to bring in addition to Permanent resident card and the oath letter on the oath day???

2. How early we have to report for the oath?

Thanks a lot. This forum been very helpful to me.

Good luck to everyone in the process.
