We need your help, and fast.

My husband was scheduled to begin work with a large employer this coming Monday, November 17. This employer uses a company called HireRight to screen their employees.

My husband was issued a social security number in the "700" series on the 6th of August. He is a green card holder and has been cleared and re-cleared for work in the US.

HireRight apparently uses some sort of database check to validate SSN's, and their database still does not show his SSN. We even went to SSA to get a verification letter, per HireRight's request. SSA indicated that there is often a "problem" with the "700 Series," in some of those databases, which, coincidentally, is reserved for new immigrants. Oh yeah.

As a result, my husband's employment has been put on indefinite hold, pending HireRight finally finding his number in their database. His (pending) employer's hands are tied, because they must follow policy, which means that they require clearance from HireRight.

Our bank has used a similar database, and cleared him for access to a bank account last month, but HireRight must not update their databases frequently or they use an inferior company.

Please help us. We can't afford to remain unemployed until HireRight gets it together. What can we do??

My company uses a similar service... The SSN database needs periodic updating... I wonder when the last time HireRight had the database refreshed.

Well, now they are saying they use Equifax. This is ridiculous, has anyone ever heard of an immigrant required to have a credit record on file before being approved for employment? I realize that credit is one thing they screen for, but surely they can't flat out discriminate against new immigrants because very few of them will have a credit record for a while. He's shown them the original SS card as well as the validation letter we got from the SSA.
