My fiancee had her Med. check up today and was called back for additional tests in 2 weeks. She had PTB before but was cured. She is required to have a check up every year for her job and has been cleared every time..Im sad and very nervous right this second. We had our interview this coming nov 24th and i am arriving there(philippines) the 28th. I had everything planned out so she can fly back with me before jan 19th. Now she was told to not go to her interview and to come in and take those tests and she will have to wait for 2 months after to get results..Is this true?? Does it really take this long I feel so helpless right now..Do i need to call up and cancel the interview? Does the additonal test cost more money??? Is there anything i can do, attorney or something to help this situation?? Someone please give me some advice, im in deep stress this second.....thank you, ray

...sorry for the the double post, i posted the 1st one in foreign embassy section didnt know how to move to here..

SLEC will still do their own medical exam. You have to bring medical certificate from your Pulmonologist stating your Diagnosis, laboratory examinations done including Chest X-rays, treatment given and for how long. You need to bring all your previous lab results including chest x-ray films (pre and post-treatment). SLEC will do comparison study with your previous CXR films and the CXR that they will do on your medical exam.

Any scars, any infiltrates, any fibrocalcific densities (scars) or any suspicious findings on chest X-ray films that SLEC will do during your medical examinations --> it is their SOP to do AFB sputum test (with culture), that's why it takes about 8 weeks (and this will delay your interview schedule). Since Mycobacterium tuberculosis is a slow growing organisms and it takes time for them to grow in the culture media. If 2 out of the 3 test is positive, then they will require the patient/applicant to be treated for a minimum of 6 months and usually a referral to their Pulmonologist for the treatment. If all are negative, then they will re-schedule you for the interview.

It is not a guarantee that once you have been treated for TB, then you are cured. Most TB organisms remains dormant and can reactivate any time (especially when your immune system is down); or you can get re-infected with new infection or if you were improperly treated (which can have a greater risk to have a multi-drug resistant type of PTB).

Good Luck to you and to everyone. God Bless.

i am sorry you have to go through this difficult process. But there is no alternate way to go thru this but to follow the protocol.

Now she was told to not go to her interview and to come in and take those tests and she will have to wait for 2 months after to get results..Is this true?? yes

Does it really take this long I feel so helpless right now.. yes, they culture the sputum specimen they will collect from her and see if it will grow positive for TB.

Do i need to call up and cancel the interview? No, the St. luke's will reschedule her interview

Does the additonal test cost more money??? I am not sure about this, she has to call St. Luke's

Is there anything i can do, attorney or something to help this situation?? none...sorry...but to wait and rebook your flight if you still can. have plan B, C and D. there is no easy way around this. You are not alone on this flight, there are other applicants who waited and are still waiting even after the interview. Don't despair. (F)Pray your fiance's result will be negative.

AOS

03-11-2009 - Notice Date

03-25-2009 - Case transferred to CSC

I know how you feel,me and my fiance been through with it.There's nothing you can do but wait and pray that she'll finish the 2mos waiting time.slec will be the one who'll re-schedule her interview.there's no additional cost for that tests.she'll be asked to undergo the tests for 3 consecutive days between 6am-8:30am and will be asked to be back on the 4th day for the smear result.usually the smear results are negative but she still has to wait for 2mos.it's really devastating but there's nothing u can do about it but be more supportive to your fiancee coz i know how bad she feels about this.

I hope she wont get a call from slec within the 2mos waiting time, because it means that she need to take medications for 6mos and once its done she'll need to have another medical exam and will pay for it again.

hang in there.

she'll be in my prayers.good luck!

If she has been treated before no worries. I wanna ask was she told what other test they will give her? Was it chest X-ray or sputum test? I wonder why does it takes 2 months for her to know the result? Let her bring the result last time and the doctors note that she has been treated. If ever she gets negative in the next test pls tell her to bring complete medical record when she gets here in the US.

Don't worry she will be fine. Hang on! A flower for her (F)

thank you all for posting and giving me your thoughts. i could not sleep at all last night due to what happend to us. im upset at myself because if i knew they were going to do this i should have just scheduled her interview right away since i knew they were going to ask her to come back and wait for 2 more months..it took us about 1.5 months of getting her req docs ready so that would have been just right timing for her test if i had done it right away....in my opinion they should have a pre Med Check....i mean how easy is it to have the person come in fill out some papers and give them the sputem test right there and then so when you get your real check up, everything will be ready(exam, culture test results ect)...i knew she has the scar in her lung from previous tb....she is cured as of this date and has a med check up every year(she works at a call center in makati so im sure they are thorough)....i could have prevented this whole thing if i only knew they were going to trip over her scar in her lung...all you have to do is sced. the interview right away because you know you will get denied so that gives you 2 months to get everything ready, thats of course if you have your passport already which we had.....i would like to help the people on this site that will go thru this and let them know to take the exam right away if you know you have scars in your lungs or even tb...its will save you the 2 months. this has been by far the worse thing that has happend to me that im feeling..honestly im very sad our country has poor immigration laws...someone on this site stated how its so easy for people from mexico to come into califonia illegally having disease and whatever else, and look at how citizens get treated(we pay to get denied)...my father fought in the korean war for this country and look how they treat our veterans..obama i hope you are reading this post, maybe you can make immigration one of your top ten, bush sure screwd things up...i will be proceeding with my flight this coming nov 28th and returning without grace...im so upset but atleast i can knock out 3/4 of the waiting time by being there with her....also i just wanted to tell everyone that this is the best place to get help with your immigration problems because people have been thru the experiences....we all learn from each other...sorry about the long post i guess im just trying to reach out to people after what happend yesterday.......

p.s. nothing against mexico and its people, just making a statement and comparing...i love de la joya but he will lose to pacquiao

hi thre.. what format did you get from NBI regarding the case that you needed to secure NBI witk aka..

please email me at yum_kendi@yahoo.com

because when i had my interview at the USEM.. CO asked me how did i get my daughters' name (Gya Kyla Liezl and Gya Keesha Lei) I said that since my husband's name starts with G i followed it and L is from my mother in law and lastly the K.. Candy is my name and I couldnt think of nice names that starts with C and so I just used K (in Filipino Candy is spelled as Kendi).. so after the CO said wait for my number to be called.. i went to window 37 and handed me a 221 g form asking for NBI Clearance Candy aka "Kendi"..

so what i did is.. get a new NBI stating my fullname with AKA@Kendi below it..

did you get the same NBI with me?

Saint lukes is the destinated medical post . All the medical exam has to be done there , if not usembassy will not except the results . From any other doctor . But you can bring a second opinion from another doctor , with you at the time of medical exam . If you believe it will help you

My wife had to undergo the sputum test with 100 other women the week of May 4th. She missed her May 11th interview. Her results are to be complete July 9th. I pray that with the assumed negative result we will get an interview date very soon after July 9th.

Anyone with the experience after the 2 month waiting please tell us your experience. When did they aschedule your interview? etc.

THank you
