Travel with erroneous greencard?

Hi,

I would really like to see my family in europe this summer but have been through waiting hell with my greencard: I had my interview on august 10th 2005, got my card on the 15th of August with a single letter being wrong ("F" instead of "m" under gender). I sent an I-90 to the California lockbox, paid biometrics. After 2 weeks I got a notice and my check was cashed. Then the case went to Missouri and stayed there for 2 months until procedures changed an dnow service centers are repsonsible. My case got forwarded and it took almost 2 months for the trip from mo to Tx. Since mid-November, it is now in TX with no update since 211-29. Officially they re processing mid-December I-90. I got the feeling that I do not get anywhere with this but do not really feel comfortable travelling with a greencard with an error. anybody got an idea if that would be a problem if they scan card and passport abroad and there is a gender divergence? I think since photo, name etc are correct it should be fine but am uneasy about it...

Why don't you book an Infopass appointment to try and ask for a I-551 stamp???

I had to travel before my actual Green Card showed up in the mail, so I got the stamp in my passport, and had no problems at all. It's worth a try!

Could you please add your details to this thread: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=138

Much appreciated! :)

If you didn't get the I-551 stamp at the time of your interview then I would go ahead and get that now. Take the NOA for your I-90 along for proof that you have filed, they'll want to see it. With the stamp you won't need the erroneous card and you can travel without a problem.

Infopass is not really an option. I am about 6 hours from my "local office" so it would be an overnight trip and I am too busy for that... thanks for the help though!

I would venture to say that an overnight trip and 6 hour drive are less of an inconvenience than not being allowed back into the country because of an erroneous green card ;)

Make sure you're wearing clean knickers. You never know when you'll be run over by a bus.
