What's next after the CR1 visa is issued...

When they say that the CR1 visa is good for 6 months does that mean the immigrant has 6 months to enter the US and then 2 years to apply for lifting the conditions? We haven't gotten our CR1 yet, but it shouldn't be too far away. I would like an idea of what we have to expect going on from here...Thanks for your help. :star:

yes 6 mos. to enter after issuance

so does that mean he can't go back to Canada during the next two years until the conditions are lifted?

Good question Shiri... I am wondering that too and can we do the paperwork to lift conditions earlier or wait for two years?

the application window to lift conditions based on an ongoing marriage opens 90 days prior to greencard expiration...

yes 6 mos. to enter after issuance

so does that mean he can't go back to Canada during the next two years until the conditions are lifted?

any greencard allows for re-entry

IR1/CR1 visa is multi entry visa.

You only use the visa for a single entry. Upon entry you are a permanent resident and get a I-551 stamp in the passport to show that you are a permanent resident until you have the actual card. After the initial entry, you will be using permanent resident status for subsequent entries--not the IR1/CR1 visa.

After crossing Port of Entry, your passport will be stamped as temporary green card. At this time forward, you can travel as many places as you want using your passport . The green card will probably arrive in the mail within a month. This is conditional green card. It will expire within 2 years. You have to wait 90 days before expiration date to file for lifting condition.

If you're divorced within this waiting period, you can still file the lifting condition but you have to provide the proof that the marriage was initially started at the good-will (no cheating to evade US immigration law)

If you were married for more than 3 years when the green card is issued, the green card will be the pernament one (valid for 10 years)
