Obama should take lessons in public speaking from President Bush

I stopped watching Bush's speeches early on in his presidency. Way too many pauses, it drove me crazy, and there was just too much dryness and not much energy. I would rather Obama not take on those characteristics.

I don't know. I'd rather see him exercise message discipline now that he is no longer running for office. If that means dryness and a cessation of the rhetorical flourishes, so be it.

Yeah, I suppose you have a point there.

Now that you pointed it out, all of Bush's speaking problems were with just getting the words out and mispronunciations. I don't recall him having to apologize for anything he said or have someone come out later and say this is what the president really meant to say.

I want to hear him rap the State of the Union address.

In this regard, President Bush is an excellent model; Obama should take a lesson from his example. Bush never gets sloppy when he is speaking publicly. He chooses his words with care and precision, which is why his style sometimes seems halting. In the eight years he has been President, it is remarkable how few gaffes or verbal blunders he has committed. If Obama doesn't raise his standards, he will exceed Bush's total before he is inaugurated.

This is a joke, right? I mean, there are entire books devoted to Bush's gaffes. There's an actual term for them!!!! Really...is this a joke?

Instead of rapping the State of the Union, how about Bush reciting U2?

OK I stand corrected, but then if that's the case what is your point about "Obama saying things he shouldn't and should be more like Bush?
