Our principal believed Catholics weren't actually Christians.

What a jacka$$.

Why, because it offends you?

Last I heard, one was to say what they believed and not worry about the offense it may cause.

Many truths have been uttered over the centuries of human existence that offended when first said.

Man is made by his belief. As he believes, so he is.

Because Catholics are Christians. It's one thing for different Christians to have different beliefs or interpretations but it would be like me saying to another Christian that they aren't really Christian.

This guy had a theologically-reasoned argument for his disagreement. You saying you're Christian doesn't make his opinion of you (that you're not) any less valid. That's the whole problem with religion, everybody's got an opinion but the whole thing is based on - indeed, it relies on - a complete absence of fact.

Sure it does because it's a judgment call rather than a belief. It's like saying you believe that black people are damned to hell ....although that sounds like a belief, it's a judgment. And that's where I see when people get sick of religious types because they go around saying what they 'believe' but what they are really doing is judging others.

That's a distinction without difference, IMO. Many beliefs, when taken to their logical conclusions, end in judgment.

That's why I think religion should be more about a way of life than about a list of do's and don'ts. Although you'll hear different views about what Christianity means from different Christians, the most basic belief is of love. Even the concept of good and evil can be understood in terms of love and the absense of love.

Then you should consider making your own religion.

Because the Ten Commandments are clearly a list of do's and dont's.

I'm not some loner renegade with these crazy ideas. I think the gist of most religions are just that - a way of life rather than a list of do's and dont's. That isn't to say there aren't moral truths ( like murder and stealing is wrong), but one's spiritual journey doesn't rely on following a set of edicts....its an ongoing transformation of the heart.

You think the fact that there are more of you that think like you lends credence to your ideas?

No wonder you're religious. Whether something is true or not has nothing to do with how many people believe it.

Maybe I'm having a blonde moment but how does that equate to being non-Christian and still go to heaven/come to G-d? If Jesus said no one goes to G-d but through him, then wouldn't that mean you must be Christian?

I know of people that have kept their families religions title for whatever different reasons they all may have, but believe in what I just stated. They didnt take on the title of "christian" even though maybe their views are more that way. In short, Yes there will be Jews and Muslims in heaven ect...
