I recently became self employed last month. Basically I was contracted out to provide my services for a year and given a 1099 from a small company. This is all new to me how do I go about reporting this on my affidavit of support? Will this cause problems? Im really confused. Please help.

You received a 1099 already? For what year? 2007? 2008?

YMMV

Sorry I worded that wrong. Im contracted out and not an official employee the company that Im providing my service for told me that Im going to be getting a 1099. I just became self employed providing my services to them since Oct 2008.

a 1099 (in conjunction with a Form 1040, Schedule C) provides income documentation similar to a W-2 for affidavit purposes, if that is your question.

YMMV

yes but like I said, I just started working for my self just last month. I have not clue what a 1040 schedual c is as I recently became contracted out. I have never done this before. I was always given a W2. Now Im not sure if this will arrise problems arise since I just became cotracted last month.

In the event, you fill out the I-134 sooner than the next time you are able to file a tax return, simply state you expected annual income for 2008 and the past three years tax returns. Indicate you are self employed and your current occupation.

If you have a 2008 tax return when you do the I-134, you will have learned about filing taxes as self employed already.

Thank you so much that is exactly what I was wanting to know and could not figure out what to do. You hit the nail right on the spot. :star: Is it a good idea to still ahead and get a letter from the business that contracted me to provide my services to them for the next year, or that is not necessary? Or just copies of the payments they have made to me will suffice?
