K-1 Visa

I read the guide to getting a SSN but I am not sure what to bring. It says #4 to bring another form of valid ID (as defined in the SS-5 instructions) Well all we have is the passport, her NON-expired I-94. Whatelse would they want? We will bring her Philippine birth certificate.

We want to get it done before the 76 days run out. So we will do it 1 week before we marry. I dont think we can get the certified marriage certificate in time before the 76 days are up. We'll just have to deal with changing her name later.

1. The SS-5 form you downloaded and filled out (they have some at the office if you forget).

2. your Passport (with the K-1 Visa in it)

3. your valid I-94

4. another form of valid ID (as defined in the SS-5 instructions)

5. You should also bring the document RM 00203.500 that you printed out

Thanks for any feedback, Buksol

i presented more than enough documents in the first SSA office we visited and had problems and then went to another office and just presented SS-5 form, passport with visa and I-94, certified marriage certificate (which you can omit if you are not yet married when she applies for SSN) and that was it, they accepted my application without problem.

it will actually depend on the SSA or the SSA employee you will talk to, just pray you will get somebody who is knowledgeable enough about different K visas, especially K1s.

just try to apply for your fiancee's SSN at least a month before her I-94 expires so at least you will not have time constraint problems like we do now. don't wait out for the 76th day.

Good luck with everything.

1. The SS-5 form you downloaded and filled out (they have some at the office if you forget). Don't need

2. your Passport (with the K-1 Visa in it) Need passport SSA doesn't care about the visa

3. your valid I-94 Need

4. another form of valid ID (as defined in the SS-5 instructions) I-94 and passport is all the ID you need

5. You should also bring the document RM 00203.500 that you printed out Might be helpful in stating your case

I would also take your birth certificate. You need to provide proof of age, identity and employment authorization for SSN purposes.

Passport or birth certificate can be proof of age.

I-94 along with passport is ID

I-94 is employment authorization for SSN purposes.

If the service rep gives you a hard time and will not accept your application ASK FOR THE OFFICE MANAGER. This is when the RM 00203.500 C1 might be helpful.
