GC approved before receiving EAD

Hello,

Ok, so I hope someone can help me. I will have my biometrics and AOS interview next week, meaning USCIS won't give me any EAD or AP. I heard from a friend of mine who just got the interview where I live that receiving the GC by mail takes about 6 weeks.

So, here is my question about work authorization, as I won't have any EAD:

- Does the approval on the day of the interview authorizes me to work??

- Or do I have to wait to have the GC in hand??

Thanks a lot!!

Faustine

Receiving the greencard doesn't usually take 6 weeks. If you are approved at the interview, you should have your card within 2 weeks. If they say that they need to review your case some more before they can approve you, then it may take longer. Or if they are waiting for a background check or something, this may also delay your approval.

Technically, once your LPR status is approved, you are authorized to work. The problem you'll have is showing evidence of this to any potential employer. If you have a written job offer, you could show that at the interview and ask for a I-551 stamp. They may give it to you. It took about 10 days for the green card to come in the mail after the interview but it could take much longer. You just never know.

Facts are cheap...knowing how to use them is precious...
