Did you REALLY just say "It's got"?

Yup

What's wrong with that?

Because you can only be 'cool' if you drink espresso from a tiny little cup. My theory is that 85% of the people who drink espresso really don't like it that much. But it's considered trendy and upper-class to pretend that you've been to Italy and are a true connoisseur of fine coffee. You could put coffee from White Castle in the cup and most people wouldn't even notice.

Well that's really a shame if that's true. I have a hard time believing it, however, since espresso is so awesome.

There was a thread on here a while back about bottled water - and a documentary on youtube where it was demonstrated that marketing had a lot to do with a person's experience of consuming it. Simply by putting tap water into differently designed bottles people were able to perceive differences in taste.

Unfortunately, bottled water is more of a necessity here. The water treatment plant here in town puts out super-chlorinated "water" that smells like bleach. Ergo, we buy the 2.5 gallon jugs of water for drinking. We have a Brita pitcher also, but only use it for the cats.

If I buy a bottle of water, it's for convenience. It's difficult to get water from the bathroom at a gas station and carry it with you in your cupped hands. :P

When I came back from vacation the other week and ran the taps - the water came out slightly brown. I don't drink it anyway - but certainly not a good sign.

"It's got" is improper English. Say it un-contracted. "It has got a stronger flavour."

Correct is: "It has a stronger flavour."

Ok, I know we're past this now, but I just can't let things go:

I was researching as well.

It's improper American English, but apparently proper British English.

It just sounds WRONG to say "It has got" Got being the past tense of get. So how did it get a stronger flavour? It didn't. It just HAS a stronger flavour.

It sounds right to me, but it's possible that it's a regional thing. I know that many Bostonian pronunciations and colloquialisms are similar to British English.

Meanwhile, you spelled flavor with a u, LOL.

Eh, the difference between formal written and spoken word (conversational) grammar.

Bzzzt, wrong answer!

it's - contraction of it is or it has.

got vb.

1. the past tense and past participle of get.

2. have got.

a. to possess: he has got three apples.

Espresso, surprisingly enough, has less caffeine than coffee. (a shot of espresso compared to a cup of coffee, that is)

Caffeine is good.

You missed the short bus. We already determined that it's a difference between proper American English and proper British English. What I wrote is correct for proper American English.

Personally, I think people who say "It's got" sound ignorant. Here in the US, at least. I know now that it's perfectly acceptable in the UK. But I still think people in the US who say it sound sub-moronic.

Kinda like people who say "I has" or "I seen".

I hate it when people say expresso. I just want to smack them and tell them they can't have any.

I'm driving in the Expresso Lane.

That's pretty common...

BTW - have you seen that Movie L.A. Confidential. When it came out I was in line to see it at the theatre and the guy in front got to the ticket box and asked for two tickets to "la confidentiale"
