first post. long time lurker. you guys are a lifesaver!

anyway, my boyfriend/fiance (it feels so weird calling him that!) are getting married as soon as we can. he lives in the UK, i (obviously) in the US, and after we are married we are planning on staying here in the US. we are trying to figure out where it would be easier to get married - here or there - when it comes to immigration purposes.

he wants to get married in the UK because his mother would like to be there and she can't travel due to health reasons. i'll get married wherever.

i say it'd be better to do the whole K1 thing and get married here simply because of the immigration issue.

he says it doesn't appear to be an issue to get married in the UK and jump right to the K3 visa.

i keep telling him everything i'm reading when it comes to the K3 visa, from what i'm understanding, is that we'd have to show proof of living life as a married couple, which we won't be doing if we get married in the UK. he's saying immigration would understand.

can anyone tell me i'm right? :D i mean, if i'm not right, i'm not going to complain at all because that would be wonderful news. :) i just hate losing arguments. ;)

thanks for reading! and helping! it's appreciated! (F)

You don't have to show proof of living together, though you will have to show proof of a bonafide relationship, that means trips made to each other (before or after marriage, doesn't matter), photographs together, if possible insurance papers, house lease, joint bank accounts, phone records of calling each other, postal letters with sealed envelops, cards to each other...........basically anything possible you can show that you two have been in touch all this time and have a solid base of your relationship.

As far as I can say London is an easy going counsulate, so you have nothing to worry about overwhelming them with all the proofs, but should have basics, like boarding passes showing travels made to each other and small things like emails, phone records and stuff.

So relax and you can get married in England and can apply for either k-3 or Cr-1 afterwards.

Best wishes (F)

Right, newlyweds can skip the "in addition to the required documents...." evidence and show alternative evidence of bona fide relationship at the interview stage.

Getting married in the UK does require a fiance visa but they can be obtained relatively easily and quickly.

The K1 path assures your fiance's mother will miss the wedding if she can't travel, as the marriage must occur in the US.

Facts are cheap...knowing how to use them is precious...
