I called the NVC tonight and couldn't get through to a person, but the automated system said my case was reviewed and there is missing information or that extra information is needed. They mailed a letter on November 4, but I have not received it yet. I'm 99% sure we sent in all the right financial information which seems to be the most common missing element on these boards...

I got my police certificate last December, so it is almost a year old. I got a new one a couple weeks ago to take to my interview since the one I sent will be expired by then (I think they last one year?); could that be it?

I'm wondering what are other common missing/extra elements that the NVC needs (besides financial/tax info)?

TIA!

Hi there,

Could be so many things. Could you have missed anything on the DS-230 - like writing in the 'to' date on a line?

I-864 - you sent in his IRS transcript for 2007 or his 1040 and W2 slips etc?

It's kind of needle in a haystack really - without talking to them it's so hard to say. I would be surprised if it was the police certificate being too old.

What did you send with the DS-230?

Yea I am sure we sent all that in. As sure as I can be now anyways :) I guess I'll just have to wait and see-- hopefully it is something that I can quickly fix. Thanks for the reply!

Just wanted to say, I had the same thing happen in the process at the same point you're at. I wasn't sure if it was the financial information or something with the DS-230. I called NVC, before the letter arrived but the lady wasn't sure what was missing, she said just wait for the letter. When the letter arrived, it was nothing it was just a piece of mail from NVC. I called later that day and the system was updated that my case was complete. Weird, but I read on here a few other people with the same problem, thinking it was an RFE but wasn't. Hope for you thats the case.

Oh yes, very true, the 'false rfe'. If they acknowledge your I-864 in the system before the DS-230, it will generate a 'false' message as the 'missing' info is really the DS-230 -which of course they already have but haven't updated the system with that info yet.

Wow I sure hope that is the case for me! I really can't think of anything we would have missed so I'll keep hoping! Thanks for this information.

Well I heard from the NVC today (in letter form) and it ended up being three things:

1. When I requested a marriage certificate from the province they sent me a certified copy of my marriage license instead. Having never been married before, I had no idea that it was not a "marriage certificate" and just sent it in. Thankfully, I requested a second copy a few months ago (just in case) and have it with me to mail out tomorrow.

2. They want an original copy of my birth certificate... I our lawyer an original "certified long-form copy" of my birth certificate which is what I got from the province. I have a second copy which I will send it, but I am confused as to why the first one wasn't acceptable? Perhaps our lawyer made a copy and sent it in mistakenly.

3. I was a student for 3 1/2 years while dating my husband and the DS-230 asked for a listed of places I've lived 6 months or longer. I wrote my school residence down, but I was back in Ontario twice for a 3 month summer and now they want more information about that. *sigh*

Hopefully this information will help someone else! I also hope it gets resolved quickly!

Glad you got your RFE quite quickly so you can get the info back quickly.

The long-form birth certificate should be just fine - you are probably right that your lawyer sent in a photo copy or something (bad bad lawyer!)

What province were you married in?
