Birth certificate translation

I have searched around here and can't seem to find this answer. I know the birth certificate has to be translated, but physically how? Can it just be a word document that looks like the original? Can it just be a white sheet of paper with all of the information?

I paid a small fee to my University language professor to translate it for me. She translated everything on the Birth Certificate, typed on a word document, and printed on a official school paper. It looks very professional. She have to add the paragraph at the bottom stating "I, (translator's name), certify that I am fluent in the English and (your language) languages, and that the above/attached document is an accurate translation of the document attached entitled (document name)" , dated and signed with her name and contact information.

This is what I done and send it with my AOS applications, and I have no problem with it (knock wood).

For your reference, I read some other threads before, some people did got it notarized or certified copy of the translation. Some just got it translated from a friend. BE SURE TO ADD THE LAST PARAGRAPH to show the translator certify that he/she is fluent that language. Since it is hard to find a licensed translator to translate mine, so I got it translated from a language professor. At least it is better than to have it translated from a friend.

Note that if you found someone to translate, ask him/her to print 3 copies and sign for you just in case. One for I-485, one for I-130, and other for future use. Get 3 copies one time is cheaper than get them in separate times. HOPE THESE HELP!

Hello Bosshawk. I did have a problem with my birth certificate also. They ask me to send them a trancribed version of it because they couldn't understand the content of my birth certificate. I did the tanscription myself. I did it using word document, added category (coz the original bc is confusing) ex place of birth, name of mother etc. I think what is important is it is correct/accurate and whoever will read it can understand it easily. I Attached my baptismal certificate and a proof that I understand english fluently. VSfansfans is correct to not forget to indicate that you or whoever will transcribe it knows english fluently and the transcribed it accurately. I sent it second week of October. I haven't heard from homeland if they have problem with it. The case processing resumed and after a week the case was transferred to California.

I translated my birth certificate by myself and got it notarized at the bank.

I wrote it on "word". My titel was: Abridged birth certificate translation.

Under the translation I wrote:

I, [name], HEREBY CERTIFY THAT I AM A COMPETENT TRANSLATOR AND THAT TO THE BEST OF MY KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITY, THE FOREGOING PRESENTS A TRUE AND FAITHFUL TRANSLATION OF THE ORIGINAL DOCUMENT, “BIRTH CERTIFICATE”, FROM THE [name] LANGUAGE TO ENGLISH.

They accepted it.
