US President elect Barack Obama faces a massive bill for neglected infrastructure, according to the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) this week.

Obama has already pledged to invest £10bn in the coming decade to maintain critical infrastructure.

These plans were likely to have made Obama the preferred choice to lead the US by civil engineers as a consequence.

...

A special meeting of Congress will meet on 17 November to discuss a package to boost the US economy. It is thought to be similar to plans being developed by Chancellor Alistair Darling, focusing heavily on infrastructure spending.

And I thought Civil Engineers were obsolete.

Just the courses in most colleges now.

I know some pretty well off people, and one of them was a city planner who was going to get me into the planning department with a CE degree. Problem is, I ###### hate calculus. So that was one of my four major changes.

I still remembered my freshman years in college.

How many CompE are in the class? 346.

How many ME are in the class? 212.

How many EE are in the class? 405.

How many Civils are in the class? 0.

My dad, his two brothers, his father and one of his brothers - all Civil E's.

They're not obsolete. Just underpaid and invisible.

I know they're out there. However, when its time they are employed, they do rake in alot of money. They are like giants. When they sleep, nothing happens but when they move the whole earth shakes.

Now, most ME can replace Civils. Many places employ ME and Architect together to build infrastructures.

I do know that eventhough they are not as common as the ones on the list, some are very fortunate to get a job at Boeing, Airbus, NASA, Raytheon.

There are no Civil Engineers - they're all rather rude, actually
