i'm the beneficiary. i intend on taking money with me to the states as a partial loan against the value of my house (in lieu of its sale) in order that i can afford to live and such. do you think this wouldn't be of interest to them? does anyone know if i am going to have problems bringing in large (ish) sums of money? this is all so complicated!

If the petitioner meets the requirements of the I-134 then the Embassy won't be interested in how much you earn or have as assets. You could self-petition if you wanted to through London but if your fiance makes enough then there's not much point.

You can transfer as much money as you like across, there is no limit and no tax implications. If you want to bring the money over as cash then you will need to declare it to Customs if it is over $10,000. I believe there is a tick box on the white customs form for this.

There is also a problem with taking cash out of the UK if it is found. You could end up explaining to UK Customs where it came from and if all tax has been paid on the money. When I was at Heathrow the limit was £5000 but I have a feeling it might be lower now.

Getting the loan might be interesting.
