hello,

my husband came on a k1 visa and his POE was JFK. He only received his 1-94 (temp EAD) and his passport stamp. They kept that "mysterious brown envelope." Maybe someone else went thru the same thing w/u.

Hi, I read about that happening to someone else and they took the envelope back to the POE. I believe Immigration at POE is supposed to keep it as it has all your immigration records. I would be calling USCIS and asking what to do as it's been two months since you entered and you probably don't live close to Chicago according to your profile.

8-12-2004 I moved to New Zealand(married my Kiwi in US 5/04)

1-12-2006 Received initial packet - It has I-130, I-864 & DS-230 Part 1, DS-2001 & tons of instructions.

Gathering paperwork that we don't have:

5-30-2006 - I-130 FILED AND ACCEPTED BY AUCKLAND CONSULATE!- INTERVIEW: 6/13/2006

6-13-2006 - APPROVED!usaCa.gifnew_zeaC3.gif

6-14-2006 - VISA IN HAND D_SMIL112.gif

08-05-2006 -WE ARE HOME IN THE USA!!! flag12.gif

THREE HAPPY YEARS LATER:

5-10-09 - N-400 filed

8-24-09 - Interview

9-14-09 - Naturalization Oath Ceremony

they are supposed to keep your stuff. You will have to give it to them or contact Chicago to send it there. I think most people this happened to have gone back to the airport to give them the pkt.

But if you live far away, that might not be an option.

Contact USCIS and ask what to do, or contact the airport that was your POE

If you ask your lawyer's opinion of you working illegally, my guess is she will say no.

I don't think working illegally is a good idea, girlfriend.

I know sweetie, it's hard to be suddenly with nothing to do and a lot of hours to do it in. When I first came here to New Zealand, it was the same for me. I didn't have anything to do and no one to do it with when my husband was at work every day.

One thing you might be interested in doing is some kind of volunteer work until you get a work permit. Where are you? Most places have animal shelters that are desperate for help, churches too.

Don't be discouraged, you'll get there. It seems like to me that every day brings a new problem but I try to keep the end goal in sight (getting back home) and solve them as I can.

The problem with working illegally is the possibility that you might get caught and be in big trouble.

Hello rachid120,

this has happened to me too when I came to the U.S. in April. My point of entry was Newark. I thought my case was unique but I see now that it happens to others too. After making a couple of phone calls to USCIS and being on hold for a long time, we were not happy with the answer. The answer was: "the officer gave the package to you for a reason. If he told you to send it by yourself, then you have to do that." This was all we got and my husband was not happy. He called the airport in Cleveland because it was closer and we knew that there were also immigration officers. We called the information desk at the airport and they transferred us to immigration at the airport. The officer really helped us. I had to take my package to that airport. Just had to call in before so they would not be busy. Annoying was that I had to repeat myself a couple of times since I was not always talking to the same person. So, just be patient.
