Stupid mistake

Ok...This is a stupid, probably fatal mistake, but it has happened and we've done it. I just wanna know if anyone else had this situation:

My wife has her naturalization interview TODAY. At the last moment we realized that we need to have old Pakistani passport at the interview (I just mailed it to our travel agent this Saturday as we're going out of country in 2 weeks or so.... ).

Question: Was everyone asked for PASSPORT at the interview?

(I know it says on the checklist that you MUST bring greencard, passport & birth/marriage certificate, etc)

All you can do is go and see what they say. I can't imagine them not asking for it. Maybe they can do the rest of it and then reschedule something later on to show the passport and finalize.

Good luck.

Life's just a crazy ride on a run away train

You can't go back for what you've missed

So make it count, hold on tight find a way to make it right

You only get one trip

So make it good, make it last 'cause it all flies by so fast

You only get one trip

I've heard and seen that sometimes they ask for the passport only for identification purpose. I am sure they pre-investigate all the overseas trips beforehand and use passport info to see if there are any inconsistencies.

We'll see how it goes. Three more hours to go before we find out!

They asked for Passport for two reason.

One is to verify your travel records. They may have some access to IBIS to check, but not all of them have their homework or have access to it.

So it is convenient to check applicant's passport for travel records.

Second is to verify applicant identity along with birth date information.

They can confirm the identity with Driver license and green card, but only authenticated document to show your birth record is the passport unless they check family census record or some thing like that.

But their preferred document is the valid passport.

Probably adjuicator can give you two options.

Easy with you, and go ahead with other information available.

Or he/she can say "come back later with your passport!"

But it is today, so give it a try.

Make sure that you bring certified birth record just in case.

Did you make any trips? Kind of ironic that as a LPR you can only have foreign passport, but do not know of any law that requires you to have that foreign passport. If you don't have one for an extension of your extension for the permanent resident card, they will issue you an I-94 temporary extension.

Recall having to send a complete copy of my wife's passport for the initial interview, but hers was only glanced at during her USC interview just to verify the one trip she made, not sure what would have happened if she didn't bring it, her interviewer was a stinker. Recall someone awhile back stating he/she lost their passport, what should they do? But, do not recall them coming back to give the results.

Did your wife report any trips?

Yes. We had 4 trips together. She was asked in detail about the dates which the USCIS officer kept writing down on the form. We had reported 2 trips on N-400 form already, and the remaining 2 were after we sent in the application. So, she was more interested in those.

Congratulation!

It all depends on whom you are interviewed with.

They have internal rules, and etc.

But still human is enforcing those.
