hello,

I need your advice on what to put on my I-130 in regards to my occupation. Last year, I worked at Science and Technology Normal University for 5 months on a "F" visa. This year I worked at Ray's Language Institution for 2 months also on a "F" visa. I understand that I was supposed to file my income tax last year and this year. I did not do that, and I wonder if the US government will want me to give them proof that I worked in China? I don't think one is supposed to work full time on an "F" visa so I don't know what to do.

Because I was on an "F" visa at that time, I don't think I was allowed to get paid. I know I will need to file my income tax return for the I-864 form and I don't know what to put on my I-130 form. Should I just say I was a teaching assistant, English Teacher, or visiting scholar? Will the US gov. still ask me for the tax forms from these schools? I never recieved them so I don't know what to do. I will be turning my I-130 into Beijing in 2 days. Can you please help? Time is of the essence. I only found out today. Thank you so much

First of all, never lie on these forms. They know more than you think they do.

So, be honest, no you are not supposed to work full time when on an F visa, but since you can't go back and change that let's move on.

You CAN get paid as an F visa holder. But you are limited to working only on campus and only part time during the school year. Did you do this?

Just put your job title and location of the position on your forms. If you worked for the university you were enrolled in for your F visa you'll be ok. I put 'student assistant' on my forms as that was my job title.

Good luck!
