Hello Everyone!

Just wondering if there are any New Delhi Interviewers out there who can share there experience.

I am trying to gather as much evidence as possible and want to know some of the things they asked for during the interview and if there were things that they wanting that were missing and you had to bring back.

Thank you!

When my fiance was at his interview in Delhi he got served a 221(g) with the following documents requested. There are at least three other people on this forum who have gotten this same doc from Delhi, so you may want to be prepared:

1. Notarized explanation of how and when you first met and why you decided to get engaged

2. List of all engagement ceremony guests, their relationship to you, their addresses and phone numbers. Please do not include immediate relatives.

3. Photos of you and the petitioner before, during, and after your engagement

4. Notarized statement signed by the applicant’s parents stating they approve of your wedding

5. Notarized copy of your fiance’s passport

6. Voter’s ID card and voter’s lists for the past 5 years for the beneficiary

Thanks Jillian,

We are already married. Have been for a year now. Our wedding was in India and his parents, family were there.

Is what you gave me for K1 applicants? I can understand the scutinizing since you are not married yet, but do you think notorized statements from my parents /friends who did not attend the wedding but believe are marriage to be real be OK? We did not have an engagement party. Since I am the petitioner, I should provide the notarized copy of my passport and India visa?

My husband has a voter ID card. Where would he get the voters lists for the past 5 years? Why would they want that?

Yes, this is for the K-1 visa, although I'm not sure that cases for married people are any less closely scrutinized... I definitely think that notarized statements from as many people as possible is helpful - we gave more than what they asked for as well. I'm sure if they ask you for a list of party attendees it will not be for the engagement party but for the wedding.

You may not need to send a notarized copy of your passport or his voter's id card, but it is good to have that stuff on hand in case they ask for it. As for the voter's lists, I have no idea why they ask for it. Part of me thinks that they are just trying to make the process more difficult to weed uncommitted people out, or perhaps looking for pretexts for rejections. The lists can be very difficult to get and there are almost always typos and inaccuracies in them. Ultimately we were able to supply lists for three of the last five years (they didn't even make new voter's lists for two of them) and then got a signed note from the local sarpanch explaining that even though his birth year was a bit off and his father's name was misspelled it was really him. But you may not want to bother with all that now though as it is a huge headache and I don't think they ask most people for it...

Thanks Jillian,

I spoke to my husband about the guest lists and told him about the voter ID card and the last 5 years- he would only be able to get maybe 2007 and 2008 anyway, since he was out of the county for the other years. If nothing else we will just bring in the ID card - Good thing you said that though, they did spell his Father's First name wrong, added an extra T. Where did you guys go to get all that voter stuff done?

I am going to get as many notarized statements as I can, even notorize my passport. Why not. :jest: I think I got everything else...I hope.

Did you get your guest list notorized or did you just write them a list and it was enough?

I saw your timetable, and I am glad everything finally went through! Congradulations!

For the most part, US Notaries witness signatures, so there's really no such thing as a notarized passport or notarized guest list. If you supply affidavits, make sure they focus on the knowledge of the relationship, not just a ceremony or party. Your marriage certificate is all you need to prove your marriage officially occured. Focus on evidence of bona fides. Actual time together and evidence of ongoing communication are far more valuable than any affidavits from people who attended a ceremony or party.

Facts are cheap...knowing how to use them is precious...

Your right. I am just getting nervous. If my phone bills don't prove anything - nothing will. :bonk: Last month it was $783.00. 27 page document of mostly calls back and forth to India. I have one from every month we have been apart. I do have all the documetnts from the military stating him as my next of kin and beneficiary.

We have some cards and letters, western unions, airline boarding passes.

I am not so much worried about approval as I am of delays because they might make up some more evidence they need before they will issue the visa.
