Hey everybody...

I would like my mom (german citizen) to visit me here in the US cause she has not really seen much of the world. But my mom has never been anywhere by herself, especially not so far away from home. That's why she wants my sister to come with her so nothing happens. Now, my sister is a polish citizen and as far as I know they do need a visa to visit the US. I've also heard somewhere, that I (german citizen with green card) or my husband (us-citizen) can write her an "invitation" or something like that, so she gets the visa to visit me with our mom.

Did anyone of you every had your family from poland (or other countries that need a tourist visa) visit you in the US, and if so, what kind of visa do I or my sister have to apply for? And is there anything like an "invitation".

I'm kinda confused and don't really know what I'm doing right now, so any kind of help is appreciated!!!!

Thanks a lot!

Each visa applicant needs to overcome the presumption of immigrant intent on there own... An invitation letter from a USC or LPR does not do anything to improve an applicant's ability to receive a visa.

YMMV

You don't need any invitation letter. It's not gonna help in any way. She just has to apply for a visa, go to the Embassy, and they will decide. As awful as it sounds there's really nothing you can do. My Mom got her visa fine. Now my grandma is applying and I hope she gets it.

You don't need any invitation letters, those are a thing of the past. Your sister will need to show ties to her country, and that she will return. Depending on her age, she will need to show that she's studying, has a job, has real estate, something. They are a little tougher on younger people.

Both my mother in law & father in law got tourist visa's yesterday actually. :) It was a 3 minute interview, very quick and painless. They only asked my father in law about his job, who he is coming to visit (his son - my husband and us) and how his son got a his green card, and what my status was that he was able to get a GC. After that they said have a nice trip, and they got the 10 year multiple entry visa.

Thanks guys... My sister has strong ties in Poland, she's got a family and a business there, that should be good enough ;)

I will tell her everything and hope she'll get it soon that my mom can visit me.

Thanks again!!!

What I heard recently (might be just gossip but worth trying if somebody needs to) is that if somebody is denied tourist visa in Poland and is coming here to visit an USC family member - that USC can call the embassy and they will grant visa. I actually heard it from somebody who was denied and then received her visa based on such a phone call. If this doesn't work you can go to your local congressman (I imagine this might not be worth an effort, but still a possibility exists) and they can call and get it fixed - I know for a fact this works, only question is: will they want to do it for you ?

I've never heard of this. I remember when my fiance wanted to come for a visit, and I called the embassy, all they said was "strong enough ties to Poland weren't shown, please advise the applicant to try again next year when their situation has changed".

I think it depends on your situation, if you have ties, and get rejected, maybe a call might work. Although anyone can call and claim to be a USC on the phone.

Sandycheeks - I think your sister will be fine. Let us know how her interview goes. Good luck! :star:

My grandma just received her visa the other day. She said she talked to two people: "some lady" and the consul. The lady asked her where she used to work and when did she retire and the only thing the consul asked was who I am to her, which she said that obviously, I'm her granddaughter. And that was it!

Of course I understand that it's different for someone young than for a 75-year-old lady, but still I think if your sister prepares for an interview, she should do fine. Good luck!
