When did "go" replace "said"?

This one has bugged me for quite a while.... When did "go" replace "said," when recounting conversations: ""I go, "insert quote here," and she goes, "insert quote here,".....""?

A co-worker does this constantly, and for me it has the effect of fingernails on a chalkboard...

LOL.

I had a friend who used to interject the following into her conversations - 'and stuff' - 'and things' - 'and all' - 'you know'.

It was so prevalent in her conversations we used to tease her about it.

She's passed away now.

I'd give just about any amount of money to be able to still have it grate on me.

lol, that word gives me away every time though I try not to use it, it comes out unexpectadly at times and all my non-Oklahoma friends laugh at me, lol
