No Dog Waste In Recycling Center

Is a sign forbidding the dumping of dog waste in a recycling center really necessary?

There are clearly marked containers for newspapers, mixed papers, cardboard, plastic, cans, glass.

Where would one even dump dog waste?

And is the dumping of dog waste in recycling centers really a problem?

I'm curious to hear from those who actually have dogs, because the sign went up recently in our recycling center and I really really don't get it.

I'm assuming it's just people too lazy to walk the extra couple of feet to the real trash. However at least they're actually picking UP the waste. That's one thing I can't stand as a dog owner are the people who don't pick up after their dogs on the street.

i'm not sure how recycling works over there but our food, cardboard and garden waste gets turned into compost. many people are not aware of the risks of dog faeces. for anyone who is interested, read this for more information http://www.nhs.uk/Conditions/Toxocariasis/...+-+Introduction

children are particularly at risk from this and it can in very severe cases cause blindness.

i would hazard a guess at this being the same there and it being the reason why dog faeces should not be put with other items to be recycled (composted) but with the main trash.

There are signs all over our recycling centre that plastic bags and trash are not accepted there, and yet there are plastic bags and trash tossed in all the time. People are just too dang lazy to sort it all out and put it all where it belongs. I suppose there may be some dog poop and cat litter in there as well contaminating the recycling products. The city was actually going to shut down the recycling centre because so many people were just dumping their garbage there instead of just their recycling.

We don't have a compost centre here, only recycling, and they take less and less recyclables all the time :P They used to allow ALL #1 and #2 plastics, now they only want soda bottles and milk bottles, no shampoo or dish detergent or ketchup bottles etc etc  They used to allow pizza boxes, now they don't. And I never have figured out where I'm supposed to put green glass bottles (wine etc). There's the bin for brown glass, one for blue glass and one for clear glass, but none for green glass. Which is more common than blue glass, so where the heck do I put the green glass?

The problem is that have any type of fecal matter deposited on the grass near the playground could promote a hazardous environment to children nearby with lowered immunity to parasites, and bacteria. The reason why that UK article was written was that having dogs are common, hence, the reason why there's a need to be concerned with their deposits.

There's nothing wrong with the recycling center rejecting or banning fecal matter. It's a private facility. I just find it weird. Baby diapers in comparison when exposed to the air could potentially produce very harmful aerobic organisms that could cause sickness in humans. They're not ignored because the diapers are recycled in tires.
