I'm in the middle of prepping my packet 3 stuff in anticipation for the big day and have a quick question.

In relation to the co-sponsors tax returns am I correct in thinking I need notarized copies of these or do I need the originals?

If I can use notarized copies does every page need to be done or what?

Ive seen on a few posts now that for the UK embassy I should have the originals of everything that was submitted with the I-129F does that mean my SO birth cert, divorce decree etc or is it just my stuff they are interested in?

Thanks for any ideas.......

The I-134 itself is the only document that is notarized...

YMMV

Since the IRS has the original 1040s, you have NO choice but to use a photo-copy, it does NOT need to be notarized, only the I-134 form needs to be notarized.

You can also use simple IRS transcripts in place of returns.

n our case this what the Affidavit of support included.

  • Affidavit of support. (I-134)

  • SIMPLE Tax transcripts from the IRS for past 3 years, (Redundant for the (1040,W2,1099) but are free from the IRS http://www.irs.gov/faqs/faq1-6.html

  • Photo copy of IRS form 1040, and W2s for past 3 years (Not necessary if you provide the transcripts)

  • Letter from my employer stating annual salary, job responsibility, and that is full time, on company letterhead.

  • Photo copies of past month or so of pay stubs up to a few weeks before the interview.
My income was well above the povertyline so I did not include any asset data (LIKE BANK STATEMENTS or property values).

If your income exceeds 125% of the povertyline when counting yourself, prospective immigrant and any dependents, then don't bother with assets (401K, Bank balance, Stocks etc..), it is just extra un-needed data to provide, the consular officer is most concerned with INCOME.

And yes it is recommended to have the originals of evidence submitted with the I-129F, so if they question the validity of the copies they can see the originals.

Nick had originals of mine (USC) and his documents at the interview, but they didn't ask to see them. London is pretty easy. It doesn't hurt to have them with you just to be covered.

I wanted to mention that there's been som hiccups in London since our July 29 interview about the I-134. Several, but not all, have been expected to do Question #11 differently than the VJ guides say.

11. I ___ intend ___ do not intend to make specific contributions to the support of the person(s) named in item 3.

VJ says to leave it blank. Some at London were told by one officer that intend should be ticked, so I would suggest doing that too.

For the specific support to add below that, it can say something like provide for all of her (his) financial support as my fiance and wife (husband).

Hi Nick & Shan,

Are you guys sure you need to do the I-134, the reason I ask is because ou lawyer has told me that it does not apply to us and that we wont need it at the interview stage?? I am starting to wonder if she has given us the correct information as you guys seem to be more on the ball than she is.... she told me that Vern and I dont need to worry about that until I arrive in the states and we are married and then we will get a new set of forms which will include the I-134 so I can change my status there. She told me that only some countries need to do this before or at the interview stage but that the UK was not one of the countries... As I said.. I am starting to wonder why she told me this and a little worried..

i think your lawyer has confused the i-134 and the i-184. you need the i-134 for the interview in london and the i-184 for adjustment of status once you are married and in the states. you're better off not using a lawyer and using this site instead. ;)
