[i would run my company responsibly and plan for a rainy day.

Of course then the government would want to take more money away from me.

The idea seems to be, "if you suck, we'll give you money; if you're successful, we'll take it away from you".

Ok, so you and SRVT are have superior knowledge and business management skills than the American auto industry. Maybe the two of you could turn it around? And I have never once stated that I think the gov. should bail out GM. I merely stated that it would have a devasting effect on an already collapsing economy. Those who say ** GM have not given much thought to what will happen. Oh, that's right, run to get a job with Toyota or Honda. Send more money overseas.

Damn right! GM's most economical car today gets 25/35 mpg and is hailed as some fukcing

great innovation. Excuse me, but I could get 60 mpg on a three-cylinder Geo Metro 10 years ago!

Their next great engineering feat - the Volt, which won't be ready until 2011 - has a range of

40 miles on battery power. 40 miles, really? Is that the best they can do? Then explain to me

how is it that the EV1 (which they made in 1996 and then killed) was able to achieve a range

of 100-160 miles?

Simple, saftey regs have added weight to all cars, your beloved Japanese included. Civics used to get better mileage years ago too. But all of these cars have gained 500+ pounds. Would you want to get broad sided in the 1990 Geo? The new Civic is much more crash worthy than the old one. It comes at the price of fuel economy. Many things have changed in the last 15- 20 years, adding lots of extra bloat to all cars.

Firstly, other companies will make up for the GM losses. People need cars. People need workers to sell cars. If the demand is there, if the funds are there, it's going to be sold. Notice how people aren't buying much of those big a$$ Yukons or Sierras or Hummers or Expeditions or Excursions anymore? We should bail out a company that simply made bad financial decisions because they have some workers? Hell, I often agree with Socialists on many things, but bailing out a business for this is simply dumb and asking for a bigger economic crash that take more of society down rather than just the company and it's workers.

Secondly, business IS my forte, that's what I have an education on, but what the hell does business management have to do with the ridiculous hypocrisy in whining about taxes on individuals but yet supporting bailing out company failures (which were substantiated by their ties to the oil industry and lack of innovation besides that) with taxpayer money? What kind of stupid moronic sh!t is this, that we suggest treating a damn business better than everyone else? Last I checked, people > business.

Additionally, Toyota and Honda have employment here, and their business brings more money locally, along with jobs. They are a globally invested company so just because they're from Japan doesn't mean they don't help the local economy. Your whining here is much akin to the uneducated xenophobia I see quite often toward other nations.

I thought law enforcement was your specialty and that you were moving to Canada because California couldn't secceed from the US? And if business is your forte, what makes you so much better at it than the executives running the companies today? By that logic, I should be able to run the US better than any president to date.

You mean the executives that are sending their company down the shitter with bad choices?

Well, the only difference is, they're going to be rich for their fuckups, and not me. The rest of your post is 100% a joke. You must be hanging around Aficionado a bit too much. He's starting to rub off on you.

people complain they cant find anything made in the usa any more but when something is assembled here everyone wants to complain its junk. i have come to the conclusion....no one is happy no matter what.

Well, those American flag wavers also happily shop at Wal-Mart, one of the kings of cheap foreign sh!t from third world countries.

However, if there are BETTER QUALITY products coming from overseas (not so much known for being cheap, but for getting better mileage and having better features), notably a country that is now known for making better technological and innovatice products, and the companies here, like GM, who had a chance with the EV1, decided to suck off the oil companies, then your suggestion is we should all suffer with them? Yeah right.

Hell, I'm all for protectionism, but I'd willingly pay a tariff or premium price on this sort of thing if the U.S. companies are not interested in taking it. Clearly the American people are.

A joke?

Didn't you know? A vote for Nader is a vote for Obama. And a vote for McCain is a vote for one of those Resident Evil zombies.

You gonna chew off my face?
