So are you suggesting Spooky that companies that are huge employers need not make any effort to anticipate market trends? They can simply operate just as they please and expect the taxpayer to pick up the tab? That seems a very funny way of ensuring efficiency to me.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

Sounds socialist to me.

Not even, just stupid. I don't see a correlation with allowing a business to opperate mindlessly with any ideology.

And what is your outlook for the US with no auto industry?

It's called capitalism. Survival of the fittest.

If GM executives cannot run their company responsibly, they shouldn't be bailed out by the government.

Same thing for the banks and Wall Street. Let them go along with the auto industry. No government help anywhere for business. Now let'd talk about the economy.

DETROIT, Mich. (AP) -- General Motors Corp. says it lost $2.5 billion in the third quarter and warned that it could run out of cash in 2009.

...

"Even if GM implements the planned operating actions that are substantially within its control, GM's estimated liquidity during the remainder of 2008 will approach the minimum amount necessary to operate its business," the company said in a news release.

"Looking into the first two quarters of 2009, even with its planned actions, the company's estimated liquidity will fall significantly short of that amount unless economic and automotive industry conditions significantly improve or it receives government funding", the news release said.

Not at all. I am merely pointing out what will be the senario with no Wall Street, collapse of banking industry, no auto industry etc. Survival of the fittest, when none are fit. 1929 would be like boom time compared to what we would face today.

 Seconded--by one who's actually SEEN the horrible results of federal (Dome Petroleum, facetiously termed "Doom Pete") and Provincial (Gainers, a meatpacker) bailouts in Canada.

Such small mindedness.

All that needs to happen is a shift in the way "they" do business.

Like I said, bring those economical designs/models they sell in Europe here.

Stop asking for bail-outs.

It is not for you to ask.

It is for you to shift your consciousness.

It is still a good time for business, just think "green" instead of continually raping and poisoning Mother Earth.

Ha!

Have at it.

You are making some interesting leaps. How do you know no companies are fit and wouldn't survive? All we know currently is that in the game of chicken, the government moves first.

I'd have seen that working for GM is working for a catastrophe. I'd have decided to work for a company like Toyota or Honda that actually thinks about the future rather than making deals with the oil industry. #### GM.

.

Got it. You are more intelligent than anyone who works for an American auto company. But would you still want to get paid in dollars or would you prefer yen?

And what is your outlook for the US with no auto industry?

Except if it helped you personally, of course.

Me personally? I've never taken a penny from the government -- all they do is take *my* money.

If it was your industry.

I would run my company responsibly and plan for a rainy day.

Of course then the government would want to take more money away from me.

The idea seems to be, "if you suck, we'll give you money; if you're successful, we'll take it away from you".
