My fiancee and I are working on our I-129F stuff, and it looks like, according to what I read in the guides section on here, we need her name change document (apparently name changes are common in Thailand) along with a translation to English. I plan on mailing both in with the I-129F. The translator has the translation in a very official-looking format with a seal & contact information to certify that it is correct and they are a "certified" translator. This seems sufficient according to what I have read, but the translator mentioned something to my fiancee about having to go to Bangkok to get some sort of additional stamp. Do I have everything I need, or do I need to send my finacee to Bangkok for this mysterious additional stamp? If I do, please explain why and what this other stamp is. Thanks!

The way that it has been explained to me as I travel through the visa process is that the translation certificate is sufficient for USCIS. However anything official within Thailand needs the additional stamp from the Thai government certifying that it is a correct translation.

Hope all goes well throughout your journey.

Take care.

anything you have translated for the uscis just needs an accompanying document "certifying that the information is true and correct and that they are familiar with both languages. so for the visa process you won't need the stamp. as a tip make sure you get multiple copies of any documents you get translated for the aos process after the marriage.

good luck!!!

Thanks for all your replies on this, but I have one very similar question to add on to this: Can I submit a COPY of the name change document (in Thai) with the translation, or do I need the original name change document? If I need the original, I'm wondering if USCIS will give us back the original at some point, since I am told it is going to be difficult to get another one of these.
