Yes, if you need something, now is the time to buy it.

From a home, to clothes, to dishes, whatever...all on sale.

And on a personal note:

I hate Christmas.

And the number one reason I hate it is because of the consumeristic idea it has evolved into.

(most) People buy into it and it is so shallow.

For over a decade, friends and I agreed to no gifts and only celebrate by gathering and bringing food and drink and merry-making.

Gifts are "illegal".

Hahaha!

I prefer to celebrate the Solstice anyways...

Thank you kindly Almaty.

I don't think I will be spending much this holiday season. Everyone I know is either being laid off or their employers are laying off. My employer laid off a bunch of people last week.

Sorry to hear that.

You made the cut, though.

Good.

So, if everyone follows this advice, what do you suggest those who lose their jobs as a result do for a living?

I'm with you on that Sister Spirit. I too dislike Christmas, and have for a long time, ever since I gave up organized Christian religion.

I dislike how retailers start pushing all their Christmas ####### earlier and earlier each year.

To me, they have totally commercialized Christmas to the point, most people don’t even know what it means anymore, other than their chance to be greedy and want presents. To be fair though, there are those people who look at it as a time to give to those not as lucky.

:protest:

We need to kill some people because if the economy in the US doesn't progress than there'll be a time when no one can get jobs. If you already have nothing, then you do have nothing to loose.

We need to kill some people ...

Did you apply your usual rigorous engineering analysis to the problem before coming up with that solution?

Man is made by his belief. As he believes, so he is.

Engineers don't need to do any analysis when it comes to killing people... it's normally done ad hoc! ;)

No. That was my gut-feeling :D

You're an engineer, didn't they beat gut feeling out of you in college?

Yes! They did. I can't implement things without analyzing what the consequences will be first. But, there are still gut-feelings always accumulate after breakfast.
