Who is included in Household Size? Conflicting guidelines.

I'm currently confused as to whether I need to count my parents in my Household Size, due to conflicting information.

http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/men...00045f3d6a1RCRD

Here, under "How Do I File AN Affidavit Of Support For A Relative," section above 2008 Federal Poverty Guidelines, it says:

Your household size includes you, your dependents, any relatives living with you, and the immigrants you are sponsoring.

HOWEVER, and in conflict, this is on the I-864 itself:

Your household size includes yourself and the following

individuals, no matter where they live: any spouse, any

dependent children under the age of 21, any other dependent

listed on your most recent Federal income tax return, all

persons being sponsored in this affidavit of support, and any

immigrants previously sponsored with a Form I-864 or Form

I-864 EZ affidavit of support whom you are still obligated t

support.

My situation is that I am an only child with no dependents, and I live at my family's home. Though I and my parents have the same exact address, the house is a split-level with two kitchens, multiple bathrooms, separate entrances, and even separate garages. I pay my share of the utility bills directly to them and a small rent, though there is no official contract. My parents are absolutely in no way dependent on me in any way.

Do I, or do I not have to count them in my Household Size for the I-134 and later the I-864?

Thank you!

No. Only those you are responsible for.

Are you sure? Can anyone else weigh in? I'm just sort of paranoid about being sure.

Thank you once again KimAndRuss; you're one of my absolute favorite users here on VJ and are always so helpful and polite.

Based on what you described - your household size would be 2.

Good for you wanting confirmation. I'm sure others will chime in but heres more...

From the I-864 ... the standards by which the I-134 are set...

"Your household size includes yourself and the following

support. "

It is the people you are responsible for taking care of.

Thanks for the kind words, very much appreciated.

Your household size is two, provided you have not previously sponsored and immigrant. However, if you were doing an I-864 and needed to include the income of others in your household, your parents could fill out I-864a forms and the household would then be four. If you qualify on your own it doesn't matter at all that your parents have the same address.

I thought that was the case. I actually remembered there are a few forms I've filled out before in which I am listed as my own household; such as for health insurance.

Thank you, pushbrk, for your help here and in the other thread, and on this forum in general. In Croatian, "brk" apparently means "mustache," so I think of you as pushmustache. Okay, that was random.

Many thanks.
