They are not allowed. Why risk a $300 fine if caught? If you're going to California especially in Southern California, those and other Filipino products are easily available.

We brought dried fish when we came back from PHIL last oct 29. We just declare it in the CBP and no problem with it.

I didnt bring any of those, probably next time,its so hard to take risk when you're first timer.

Just look for any asian stores in your place when you get here and Im sure they have some selection.

I miss eating dried fish with spicy vinegar and bagoong!!

last april 2008 my mom went to the usa with a tourist visa and she brought with her frozen tinapang bangus..it was vacuumed packed and frozen then wrapped in newspaper. she brought with her almost 5 kilos of smoked fish. it was okay as long as it is not smelly and it is cooked already. im sure tuyo is also okay. i also asked her to bring in canned bagoong and argentina corned beef. meat products are a big NO but if it is processed and canned like corned beef it is okay.

Some people got lucky maybe you're not who knows, right? Why risk! A lot of Asian Supermarket in California. In my place I don't have to worry if I miss some filipino food I can buy it here unless if it's really authentic an hard to transport.

My relatives weren't so lucky. They had to dump it so that they won't be fined. $300 can buy you a lot of tinapa and tuyo in Cali.

No problem to bring tuyo in, I would make sure it's unopened bottle. No fruits, vegtables or meats though (canned meats ok). Don't worry about any $300 fine because there is none. They will simply take any prohibited items from you in customs. If you like Argentina corned beef bring some because it's seems next to immpossible to find here. Any other items like tuyo, dried fish etc. you can get in Filipino or Asian markets in many major cities.

One more thing, just be honest with what you have brought in with the customs official. The fine only applies if you lie and they catch you with prohibited items. Otherwise they will just take any prohibited items from you no fine involved. FYI, I brought in dried mangos last time and the guy said it was ok as long as they were unopened. Also some glutinous rice candy my mother in law made which they also said was ok.

I have a friend who went to Manila to visit his fiance and when he came back, he brought with him some "tuyo" (dried fish) for me. It was so nice of him because I love eating this one for breakfast. I guess it's okay to bring "tuyo" to the United States as long as it's processed, packed and sealed so that it will not stink.

i was able to bring some tuyo and i didn't get into trouble. just declare it in custom

I brought with me some dried foods but not tuyo and I just declared it. The custom in WA DC asked me if I knew "bagoong" and asked if what i had was "bagoong" and I said no. Up to you, it's hard to take risk though.
