So, my sweetie and I had a pretty interesting discussion last night. She was going on and on about how she doesn't understand why people in this country voted for BHO, or why they support socialism or the "share the wealth" concept. She spoke at length about having "been there, done that" and how crappy that system is and so on and so on (and she was talking purely about economic and property issues, not political or human rights issues). She is very worried about the U.S. economy, even more so now that we have BHO. So, she says that if things get too bad here and the government wants to take what little wealth we have, she doesn't mind if we move back to Russia.

I just thought it was funny that a foreigner from a communist country gets it - while many of those who were born and raised here do not (:

that is all well and good, but how about when economic and human rights issues overlap? for example with healthcare.

How is healthcare a human rights issue? Does the fact that you have to pay for it seem somehow inhumane?

This system was formed against the hierarchy where the czar and other dignitaries were living rather well while the masses were starving. But the capitalistic system has the same fault where just handful of people can gain control the needed necessities of life. This can be accomplished by getting control over the government to make rules and regulations to protect them. Such was very true here in the turn of the last century. Teddy Roosevelt was against that, the likes of Carnegie was not only paying poor wages, but getting most of it back with with housing and the company stores. Unions offered some defense, but most unions have been destroyed. An easy way to dump a union is to move the company to states with right to work laws, or simply out of the country,

It's this greed that was initially form by the Reagan administration that is setting this country back a hundred years, with no help from either Bush, Clinton, or Bush. In the span of the last 25 years, my property taxes have gone up by a factor of seven, the average cost of an automobile has gone up at least by a factor of five, but the minimum wage was not even doubled. Not in proportional. Guess the super rich didn't factor in, they also require people wealthy enough to buy their stuff, so now we are hurting.

Our imports are making dictators rich that is being used against us, wouldn't be a bit surprised if we are attacked by China, certainly building up their military strength.

We really have had bad leadership here for the last 44 years, this country cannot last that way. And we certainly are not equal in any sense of the word, can't even start up a manufacturing business the way things are in this country today. The biggies and all the new governmental laws will kill you before you get started, not exactly fair. Wasn't this way even 30 years ago, is now.

socialism....hmmm the new word for paranoia...flipping papa smurf couldve been elected and SOMEONE would come up with something negative to scare ppl with.

My husband came from a once communist country, and has even stated with the way Pres Obama wants to fix this country is no where close to communism or socialism. I think some US citz put too much in their SO's minds to make things seem worse than they are.

oh waaa, God forbid you ever need help and someone spits in YOUR face.

You know back in the day, ppl helped ppl, either finacially or mentally or whatever, today ppl are too self involved and spoiled to even think twice of helping ppl. It wouldnt be just the middle class family thats getting the help, EVERYONE would have the health care.
