Perhaps we should do away with all publicly funded services - and not provide any funding to education or public services?
I agree.

 I can't say I'm surprised that you'd say that - its radical, but certainly not inconsistent with what you've been saying.

What you seem to be suggesting is a Night Watchman State (basically one step above anarchy), interesting theoretically but practically it would do little more than exacerbate the class-wealth divide.

what if you require specialist treatment or medication? you don't know what you are saying.

What makes you think I don't? You think I've never gotten sick and required treatment? :D

So your suggestion is everyone else should be at risk because a few people who get hurt here are illegals?

I guess you don't realize taxpayers pick up the tab anyways.

But nonetheless exemplary of a "me me me me me" class who don't really think much beyond that.

I'd rather be a "me me me" class than a "screw me" class.

Sure taxpayers pick up the tab, but it's up to their judgement to keep the tab to a reasonable minimum. Healthcare ruled by the central govt is neither reasonable nor minimum. The expense is huge and the efficiency is questionable; I should know, I have experienced it.

That's a great tip, don't get universal in Russia. Thankfully, this isn't Russia. We're told we have the best doctors and medical care. Despite all of the doctors around here suggesting we need to nationalize our health care, I guess they would just disappear once the nation went universal and we'd turn into mother Russia.

It's the government's job for any government run program to have a budget. Since Congress is the branch which would appropriate money for it, as well as dole out the federal income taxes, the best way to keep this in check is using that annoying thing called "a vote".

This is, of course, the logical premise, rather than the "ooh icky illegals using my hospital!!!" approach.

I just love the pretty pink bubble you're living in.

Sure, US govt is so different from any other govt one simply cannot fathom how it could misuse the tax money allotted for nationalized healthcare. :D

Well... you won't find yourself in a position of having to declare bankruptcy as a result of treatment costs under the socialised systems, nor will you be denied coverage under insurance rules (which does affect whether or not you receive treatment).

Socialised systems aren't perfect, but the US system is worse (unless you're fabulously wealthy) - its this idea of socialism that gets people crying foul. Fortunately - there isn't the kind of hysteria about that outside of the US.

Everyone else gets it. Sadly - we don't.

have you been at risk from having a heartattack and been told that the medication you require will cost you more than you can afford, only later to die from not receiving said medication? no you haven't. that happens to americans who have worked hard their whole lives.

continue being rude, it helps your arguments.

Yep, you won't go bancrupt under socialism because you'll have nothing in the first place. :)

perhaps in russia. russia is not the only country in the world with universal healthcare. maybe if you took the time to learn about that you might not make such uninformed comments.

edit: it's "bankrupt" by the way, with a k.

Can you tell me a country that has perfected how to not misuse money? Government? Corporation? Non-profit? Since I live in a pretty pink bubble, I must be overlooking them. Since every other first world nation has universal, are they all of the third world countries without universal who, very strangely, seem to have a much worse problem with health?

I must agree with you though, I've never died of not receiving a proper medication hence I guess I have no right to argue my point. :)

You guys presume too much about my information (or lack thereof) about other countries of the world, including those who have universal healthcare. I wouldn't be arguing here about socialism if my knowledge of its effects were limited to Russia only. So don't patronize.

Noone's advocating hard socialism in this country - outside of the "actual" Communist party.

You can't even mention the word in this country without people seeing images of red flags. The collective hysteria is really quite bewildering.

you were rude with your first comment in this thread. you have continued to be condescending and rude. does being offensive get your point across better? perhaps upsetting people makes you feel good about yourself?

I'm trying to find any logical argument to your cause beyond either hating to share a hospital with illegal immigrants, paying taxes, or hating anything government run. I live in a pretty pink bubble so I guess my Congress = appropriates funds and people = vote for Congress members as a check must be out of whack since in Russia it doesn't work very well.

My bad, I should indeed have died multiple times of that lack of medication. :)

Why do you assume that disagreeing with you makes me rude and offensive?
