For any VJers who are military and have difficult immigration situations here is a link to the American Immigration Lawyer's Military Assistance Program. They want you to have tried other resources first, such as the USCIS's military hot line and your JAG office first. Of course the best resource is right here art VJ, but sometimes there is no substitute for professional help. I would be interested to know if anyone has used this pro bono service and found it beneficial.

No, I haven't used it.

I have a question. I wonder if JAG or someone can help me with the evidence portion of the interview. Like letters verifing that the military acknowledges our marriage. I just read a post about persons that went to the interview with a bunch of evidence and were asked for some more. I can not afford any more prolonged waiting if it can be avoided.

1) You can always get a letter from your commander, or other superior. It never hurts to have those notarized. You can get a statement from anyone who has direct knowledge of your bonafide marriage.

2) A spousal military ID card is strong evidence. If you haven't been in a position to get one for her, then evidence of being enrolled in DEERS would be necessary. If you haven't already enrolled her, do it ASAP, and make an extra copy of the paperwork for her interview. You can enroll her without her being present here or a t a US military installation. It is very important to have family members enrolled, as it validates their eligibility for medical and a host of other benefits. A spouse can't be enrolled without a valid marriage certificate, etc.

3) Evidence that she is listed as the next of kin on family readiness documents, life insurance, etc.

4) JAG can help you with a will, in which she can be mentioned.

Those are the things that immediately come to mind. JAG might have some other suggestions. It never hurts to ask.

They are there to serve you.

Thank you for the advice. I had done everything you mentioned but register him in DEERS (due to it was only valid for 90 days without an SSN is what they told me) maybe that is wrong. I am going to do that today. Hopefully, I am in that 90 day window anyway.

I will also talk to my supervisor for the letter. I have already got the will and the SGLI taken care of/next of kin I am going to get the orginal of that for his interview. He only has a copy.

I think I will also ask my parents to send me a knotized letter acknowledging that I am married to my spouse.
