I recall reading a book written by a Somali born Dutch parliamentarian Ayaan Hirsi Ali.... The book I read was called "The Caged Virgin" and I would recommend it as a must read - this lady recounts her experience's and how she ran away from Somalia to avoid a forced marriage amongst other things. She explains many of the beliefs that are held - such as men stating they could not get SDT's due to the fact they are muslim men - It is a very enlightening book especially from view point of a woman being subjected to these beliefs. A very brave lady.

It has been discovered since that book was written that she lied about several points in her past, including the forced marriage. It caused her Danish citizenship to be revoked and they kicked her out of the country.

Cases like this are tragic, and committed by the ignorant, who believe they are justified in such killing, Yet, another barbarian act that many in this country defend is the killing of babies in the womb. Our president-elect voted multiple times to allow babies who survived abortion to be denied medical care and left to die. Some defend that.

Barbarity is not unknown in the US, and many who are repulsed by this are accomplices to it.

Correction for typo:

How can she be guilty of adultery by herself?

That's like someone committing a conspiracy by themselves.

I would have no problem investing in satellite technology that would allow us to see something like this when it's happening,

and surgically stop those that are throwing stones at a helpless child in a "killing pit".

Despite being 13 she was probably married. Which is why she was executed for adultery. It doesn't matter that the adultery was a result of rape. It is difficult to impossible in muslim countries for a woman or child to prove she was raped. 13 is young by western standards but in Islam a girl is of legal age to marry at 9. They don't consider a man to be a pedophile for wanting to marry a girl so young. Technology has changed in the ME, but socially they haven't changed much in the last 1000yrs.

It made Gulf News headlines some months back when an 8yr old Yemeni girl filed for divorce against her 35 yr old abusive husband that her father had forced her to marry.

It's male machismo & insecurity in action. Muslim guys like that can't handle a mature and educated woman so they marry an uneducated young girl.

With some muslim guys, I would certainly have to agree with you though I've seen guys here too who go after girls so they can dominate and control them. Difference is in the middle east the law works on the men's side.

The point is, it takes two to tango, whether or not it was a rape. If it wasn't actually a rape (which I don't buy for a nano-second), then the men are just as guilty of adultery, and should get the same punishment.

I totally agree  It is amazing what the men can get away with over there especially since they often do far worse thing than the women yet have few if any repercussions from it.

What an ignorant perspective. Why don't ME Muslims follow the moderate perspective of the largest Muslim country (Indonesia), and prosecute for crimes such as this?

In fact 3 terrorists, who killed 210 foreign people in Bali, having nothing to do with politics, were executed in Indonesia 36 hours ago.

Indonesia has their act together, yet the ME does not. Perhaps someday......

Indonesia has plenty of their own issues. Maybe they got this one taken care of, but there is a lot of wrong things going on there to work on.

I can't believe you equate an unborn child to someone who is 13. Are you really that ignorant?

I'm assuming you don't agree with it, but can you at least understand the argument that it is just for society to put a murderer to death, but it is unjust to kill an innocent, including one yet unborn?

murder is murder. also, two wrongs do not make a right. so no, i do not agree. how does killing someone who killed someone make it better? ok they aren't alive anymore but someone killed them, which then makes them a murderer.

studies show that executed murderers never kill again.
