That is odd because it is clear as day in the Quran and hadiths that the punishments are different between adultry and pre-marital sex. Most muslim countries do differentiate except the most backwards ones like Pakistan, Somalia, Afghanistan, etc. From what I have seen even Saudi doesn't usually allow death as a punishment for pre-marital sex though some families will take matters into their own hands.

yeah, nothing quite like having a family outing for an honor killing.

picnic and horseshoes playoffs follow.

How odd. 45 posts and the thread is missing the obligatory "religion is responsible for the world's ills" comment.

Don't forget the after dark fireworks.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

And to top it off.. None of the men accused of rape were arrested, Amnesty International said.:o

Well doing that would remove the girl of any wrongdoing and make her murder 'unjustified'. :\

It's horrible but not surprising. I wonder though if she was married, because they called it adultery.

muslim countries consider adultery as premariatal sex, not as we see it as cheating on a spouse.

In cases of adultery (our definition) isn't the woman killed and the man fined? Or something else equally ridiculous.

Well as terrible this is - this isn't exactly a watershed moment in Somalia. They haven't had a stable government in decades, "law" is enforced by anyone who has a gun or machete and whichever transitional warlord has ascendancy at the time.

In other words its a brutal, medieval country (with modern weaponry).

Fundamentalist religion obviously plays a part in this sort thing - as it naturally would. Whenever you have a large pool of angry, militant and uneducated people - religion tends to fill in the gap (as it did in the middle-ages).

Well not really (at least back then most of the world was ignorant and semi-barbaric - so everyone was in the same boat). Its only shocking to us because places like Somalia are so far behind the times in terms of human social development that it seems like its happening on a different planet.

(CNN) — A 13-year-old girl accused of adultery was stoned to death last month in a soccer stadium in Somalia, witnesses told CNN.
Soccer is clearly a dangerous sport and must be banned!! In the meantime, we need government regulation and oversight of this game, and no one under 18 years old must be permitted to participate or attend this dangerous, violent sport.

If we ban soccer stadiums things like this won't happen again.

I'm still not sure how this happened anyways. I thought all cultures were equal?

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

Culture doesn't have anything to do with this. There's nothing "cultural" about murder.

That said - I do find it interesting that so many people are so outraged by this one incident. Terrible as it certainly is - its not unlike being outraged by a single execution in the middle of WW2 Germany while the Holocaust was going on.

There's a bigger picture to consider here - the tragedy of that country goes way beyond that soccer stadium. It really is atrocious that the developed world turns ####### like Iraq and the War on Terror into a moral crusade but ignores the Somalias, the Sudans and the Zimbabwes of the world.

Sickening.

I'm sure the allied countries not involved in Iraq or Afghanistan could use their moral superiority and mighty armed forces to stop such outrageous but neo-colonialism is so out of fashion.

I wonder how many people actually believe that humanitarianism has much of anything to do with the broad thrust of developed world foreign policy initiatives...

As I said - sickening.

Not according to the posts in this thread.

PEOPLE: READ THE APPLICATION FORM INSTRUCTIONS!!!! They have a lot of good information in them! Most of the questions I see on VJ are clearly addressed by the form instructions. Give them a read!! If you are unable to understand the form instructions, I highly recommend hiring someone who does to help you with the process. Our process, from K-1 to Citizenship and U.S. Passport is completed. Good luck with your process.
