I recall reading a book written by a Somali born Dutch parliamentarian Ayaan Hirsi Ali.... The book I read was called "The Caged Virgin" and I would recommend it as a must read - this lady recounts her experience's and how she ran away from Somalia to avoid a forced marriage amongst other things. She explains many of the beliefs that are held - such as men stating they could not get SDT's due to the fact they are muslim men - It is a very enlightening book especially from view point of a woman being subjected to these beliefs. A very brave lady.

Girl, 13, stoned to death in Somalia

Posted: 05:19 PM ET

(CNN) — A 13-year-old girl accused of adultery was stoned to death last month in a soccer stadium in Somalia, witnesses told CNN.

The killing occurred October 27 after the girl, Aisha Ibrahim Duhulow, told officials of al-Shabab, a radical Islamic group that controls the port city of Kismayo 500 km (300 miles) south of Mogadishu, that she had been raped by three men, said Amnesty International, citing sources.

The human rights organization said 50 men participated in stoning the girl, who had been placed in a hole in the ground, as about 1,000 people watched.

“It was absolutely appalling to be there, the girl was screaming and begging for mercy as she was being dragged to her killing hole,” said a Kismayo resident who did not want to be identified out of fear for his safety.

None of the men accused of rape were arrested, Amnesty International said.

How horrendous -

I used to do some pro bono work with asylum immigrants - We had one girl from Somalia who had been sold by her father and brought to the US as a slave - the conditions she lived in here in the US were horrendous - it happens everywhere, it's scary -

It breaks my heart to read these posts - The world comes so far in so many ways -but is still so backwards in others.

Guessing by their logic (and hearing similar stories), because the girl's existence made the men lust, then it is considered her fault. Not only should the men that raped her be stoned to death, the people that stoned the girl should have the same done to them. :ranting: :ranting: :ranting:

What is wrong with people these days... *shakes head*

i'm confused....are you suggesting that the people that stoned her be raped or stoned?

i'm a firm believer that two wrongs do not make a right but i think in this case they deserve both, preferably in that order. ;)

I've read similar cases on this and each one is truly heartbreaking. Some of the excuses they use are that under Islam you need four witnesses to accuse someone of somthing. More than likely there were not four reliable witnesses that could testify against the three men (I never figured out what you can do if there isn't enough good witnesses). Anyway, this is what backwards countries like this use to let the men go. Unfortunately the evidence against the girl is her loss of virginity which they can just have four different people inspect her and use as witnesses saying she isn't a virgin. I really can't figure out how they can call it adultry unless they are implying one or more of those three men was married. Of course then you would have to admit they actually raped her. None of it makes sense, but I thought I would give the silly excuses they use in answer to some of your questions.

Married: May 28th, 2007

Arrived in the US: December 10th, 2008
