I SERIOUSLY DOUBT IT.

It makes NO difference who is in the White House or Congress, Department of State (NVC Consulate), Department of Homeland Security (USCIS) will remain the same.

I doubt that they'll be a BIG reform in the way things are done. If ever there would be a change, it wouldn't happen anytime soon. I don't think that will be one of the highest priority!

They are about running out of excuses in my mind.

People who were shifted to work on citizenship petitions were meant to be back on the job November 1.

The election is over.

And when that was all done and dusted, we get the slowest week I've seen.

Of course coming right up we have any number of holidays, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year. Does anyone in these offices actually work for a living?

I can explain it to you. But I can't understand it for you.

USICS is funded by our petitions, not our taxes, so it's unlikely to have an effect.

True!

The OP has yet to experience the JOYS of waiting for the Guangzhou Consulate. GUZ has the habit of placing everything into storage for 3 months before they get around to "RECEIVING" the petition, that is package leaves NVC where it will enter a BLACK-HOLE for 3 months, no indication that the consulate has received it, it looks like it is LOST for 3 months.

Nothing at all to forgive sweetheart. We've all been there! Hopefully that touch will mean something wonderful for you very soon. Just remember... where you are now is the absolute worst! ;) Stay strong... it's coming!

Oh dear, I didn't even notice the OP was going through GUZ. You are so right Dan. :(

OP... if you've not been to www.candleforlove.com yet, it's somewhere you're going to want to visit. ;)

I don't think anyone cares that much about legal immigration, other than those of us involved in it, but on the off chance that obama happens to have some interest in it (it's very possible) nothing changes fast in government, odds are likely that everyone here currently will have been approved before any reform of the immigration process occurs, even if it was a priority (which I'm sure it is not). All I can say is don't make it too big of a habit of falling in love with non-USC's and you won't have to worry too much about immigration torture.

The consulates are bulletproof and accountable to nobody. Each will continue to operate as its Consul General and Section Chief pleases.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

I think Obama is aware of some of the flaws in the legal immigration process. He and representative Gutierrez worked together to introduce the Citizen Promotion Act (http://obama.senate.gov/press/070307-obama_gutierrez/index.php). The purpose of this was to roll back the 2007 fee increases and propose partial government funding for the processing of citizenship applications to remove financial barriers to applying for citizenship.

I don't know if it was part of this act, but I remember reading that Obama and Gutierrez were also involved in a proposal to put process limits on Green Cards (ie GC apps should be processed within 3 months, like the work authorization applications).

Generally, I thought this was very encouraging. But given all of the other problems the nation faces, I don't expect to see much in this area any time soon but I do expect that his immigration policies will include improving the process of legal immigration.
