I applied so many places. Well, only places I could get to the interview was Disneyland, Macy's and bath and body works. It is pretty sad.

I wanted to work at Disney, and I actually did so well at interview. However, they hired a lot of seasonal people in OCT. OMG. I got my EAD in the beginning of November. So the HR lady who interviewed me said, I really want to hire you right now and I wish I could. But, there are no open positions now. From January, we will start contacting people.

She was very impressed by the way I presented myself and my qualification. I have a BA and speak two languages and have previous working experience in both US and Japan.

So, I wrote Thank you letter to her and now I am waiting for a call.Until January of February, I have nothing else to do, so I decided to apply some seasonal jobs. NO hit except Bath and Body works.

And I got a seasonal job there. BUT, I will not be able to get enough hours. They just hire tons of people with a few hours.

Macy's also, but it gives so much pressure to meet quota and sell credit cards. So I chose Bath and Body works.

Well, I even applied for Merven's. The store close to my house is closing and hiring people for a short time.

Do you think that it is much easier to get a job after Christmas or New year's?

Because a lot of employers already hired seasonal people.

I called up 5 places yesterday. even grocery stores. The same answer. They all hired seasonal people already.

Marco has had such a hard time finding a job (but understand, we live in a Southern Hick Town) that he is going to start back at the University in January. He has a degree from Germany that's even accredited here but this town is just too racist!

His school will take about 2 years (Secondary Education - so he can teach German in the schools)....... This wasn't at all what we planned but I guess it'll turn out ok...

I've already decided that this is EXACTLY what I'm going to do. If nothing else, studying full-time will justify working a shitty job in the meantime. I too will be living in a hick town, and I've told 'er indoors that I'm not spendimg my life there. That's the deal: I move over there, we move outta hicksville.

Likewise I will be going back to school here, once finances allow. Working a ####### job will help with that as well gaining some US work experience. Still applying in the meantime for better paid jobs, will keep plugging away.

Good luck everybody with your job search.

I found a job about 2 weeks after I got my work permit. Seems OK, a job at a videostore (I like movies so that's a no-brainer) which is only 2 blocks away from my house (I don't have a car or even a DL yet so being nearby was important).

is it "beneath me"? I don't have any specialized skills so I wont say it's beneath me. Do I like it? No.

The company wants us to get 'excited' over pretty much everything that goes on, which is pretty hard if they're paying only $8.25 per hour (recently my wage got boosted up from $7.95, and so now my manager thinks I am forever in her debt), and while breaking numerous labor-laws in the process.

the co-workers are pretty cool, there's 2 other guys that I hang out with after work so that's good.

bad part (besides the shitty wage)? Customers and management. I'm starting to think there's something in the water here that messes with people's IQ's.

then again, I suppose videostores, libraries and gas-stations all have to deal with all the genetic debris that walks around.

seems the city of Belleville is having an opening for a custodian somewhere next month, I'm gonna see if I can apply there.

$20 an hour, benefits, health insurance AND the protection of a Union seems somewhat more attractive than having to deal with idiots and a sex-starved manager all day *shivers*. :o

It is good that you have a job. well, I was hired as a seasonal employee at Bath and Body works. It sucks.

They just hired so many people without giving almost no hours. So, technically I cannot even earn money so much. So little. It is insane.

I have heard that after holidays, a lot of seasonal people leave. So it is a chance to get some jobs.

I am planning to call back one job that I passed the interview.

It is crazy, but we have to be patient.

This economy is getting worse and worse.

I've been moving down the ladder instead of up, in terms of both status and salary, for the last five years, and it hasn't bothered me in the slightest :)

I guess it depends on what matters to you :)

The Very Secret Diary of Legolas Son of Weenus - by Cassandra Claire

Day One: Went to Council of Elrond. Was prettiest person there. Agreed to follow some tiny little man to Mordor to throw ring into volcano. Very important mission - gold ring so tacky.

Day Six: Far too dark in Mines of Moria to brush hair properly. Am very afraid I am developing a tangle.

Orcs so silly.

Still the prettiest.

Day 35: Boromir dead. Very messy death, most unnecessary. Did get kissed by Aragorn as he expired. Does a guy have to get shot full of arrows around here to get any action? Boromir definitely not prettier than me. Cannot understand it. Am feeling a pout coming on.

Frodo off to Mordor with Sam. Tiny little men caring about each other, rather cute really.

Am quite sure Gimli fancies me. So unfair. He is waist height, so can see advantages there, but chunky braids and big helmet most off-putting. Foresee dark times ahead, very dark times.

I read your posts and realized I AM NOT ALONE! 4eb1030a89cfa0ac6f3d4487a98db348.gif

I have a Master's of Arts degree and I am a professional translator (English, Russian, Ukrainian, German languages) I have hard time finding a job too. Moreover we live in NW Tennessee in a small town where it is next to impossible to find the job I have skills for. In a bigger city it would be easier but...

Are you having a hard time looking for a job?

I just went to one major retail company for an interview. The only thing they offered me was minimum wage with small hours. I keep applying for many places, but nothing good so far. I have a BA and speak two languages. But, you know, the economy is so bad. I will have another interview on Monday, but I am not expecting anything so good.

Please share your experience. I am applying for a even regular cashier or sales positions. Nothing fancy.

Hi Sherry, good morning! just passing by. I read about your article, nice to hear from your side your getting bad experiences, that's life! Your not alone, were here to support you, we have to accept. Sandali tagalogin nlng kta, bka maubusan ako ng english dito, he! he! he! Kung ako syo tanggapin mo yung trabaho pansamantagal lang, steping stone mo yan sa buhay mo. It comes from ur own words the economy is bad. Tanggapin mo lng para malibang ka, para lang my savings. Maybe next year gaganda na ang buhay natin and keep on praying my katapusan din ang problema. Ok! God bless and ingat kyong lahat jan! Mabuhay Kabayan!!!

Why not just get an inhome daycare license and work out of your home caring for kids?

Its more money there.

Does anyone have experience in the childcare field? My fiancee has a few years as a "nanny" in Thailand and would like to work for a daycare or do more nanny work in the U.S. Do you think it would be difficult to get such a job here for a recent immigrant?
