I think uncommon (but real) names are cool. Also, names from your home country are okay. I'm against made up names or names with the 'off' spelling -- it will only make the kid's life harder. It's okay to give your kid a unique name, but take the kid's plight into account as well.

Name your baby "Feces" and they will love you forever. And hopefully when you are old and need their support, they will disown you for starters. :)

Reamember.. your child has to live their whole life with that 'different' or 'unusual' name.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

Senator Barack Obama
Senate Floor Speech on Public Debt

While my eldest daughter was growing up we lived in Hawaii...

I remember her first day of kindigarten.. the teacher was scolded by a mother for now knowing how to pronounce her daughters name. "How can you teach if you cant read... " the mothers of the room stood there mouth open in shock.. mainly due to her sharpness she spoke to the teacher.. ghasp..

The childs name.. ABCDE proun AB SE DI

15 years later.. while on a visit back to the islands.. sitting at the beach down from my former home.. my daughter began talking to a girl on the beach.. low and behold .. it was she.. ABCDE.. we giggled all afternoon of that first day of school..

Our names..

Janet Lynn mua nothing special... was supposed to be Jeannette Lee father changed it at last moment

Amber Lee (after the Kathleen Winsor book Forever Amber and xhusb best friend)

Iniki Lynn (we call her Nikki - Iniki after huricaine Iniki hitting Hawaii in 92. at the same time I went into premature labor. at 26 weeks.. putting me in the hospital for 10 weeks to keep her from being born.. giving birth to her at 37 weeks. yahoo.. healthy and fiesty to this day as well now 13 yrs later)

Best part is.. my love.. His name is Janak. I have called him Jan from the day I met him

If you use the initials of us.. J (Janet) A (Amber) N (Nikki) ... spells JAN...

In Hindu.. Jan means Love so go figure

Love isn't love unless it is expressed;

caring isn't caring unless the other person knows;

sharing isn't sharing unless the other person is included

Yes, I have been getting married - Jan 12 and getting knocked up and sending away my I-130. Funny thing is conception was probably around the same date as we sent out our paperwork-Feb 15. It's a race to see which one will get completed first. :P
