It is pretty much assured that the US Consulate will NOT place a visa in a passport that is "damaged" or "mutilated"... Based on the OP's description it sounds like it would fit into one of those categories...

i assumed that would be the case, which is why i'm trying to get a new one asap before i have an interview. but if i can't retain my old passport aswell as the new one as proof, is the question i pose. will i have problems with just photocopies of the pld [assport and stamp pages and will i need a new police certificate?

i asked this in an email to the embassy but they havent replied yet, does anyone know the average ammount of days if they do reply?

If I may ask, why do you need the old one?

i quoted the number of it in our petition, as i was in the usa when we did the papers, also i sent a photocopy of my stamps into the usa, and biography page (the damaged bit) as proof we had met. it clearly states in packet three to provide all orignal copies of evidence submitted in petiton at the interview, plus i found this damage after getting my police certificates which cost £40 which have my passport number on them. these are the reasons i think i need the old copy. i posted because if i cant have the old copy back, wanted to know if anyone knew if i would have problems because of those reason i have just stated.

I thought London would be an easier consulate than ours... We provided no originals of any evidence in the original petition... There is a directive out that tells the consulates that the original petition is not to be re-adjudicated... unless new information is now available that would make the original petition unapprovable...

it is generally a mopre laid back consulate but you never know, i have seen one or two posts where they were asked for evidence. so would rather have it, but it still gives me the problem of the police certs, i am assuming that they need to be linked to your current passport or perhaps if i have the old one with me they accept it
