lots of people don't understand that africa is made up of 50 countries. i'm willing to bet she doesn't know what the united kingdom is and the four countries involved there either. ;)

Actually 47, but disputed. I have worked in 18 of the African countries totalling over 2 years, and although difficult in some areas, I very much enjoyed the cultural experience. Sad to realize that Palin does not have a clue..... There is so much to this world beyond US borders.

I think it's sad that there's a lot of people that have no desire to ever travel anywhere outside of the US

Agreed Amby. We Americans need to do some serious travel. If we could only get the airlines to realize that oil is down in price (reduced price for A-1 jet fuel), the ticket prices would fall proportionately.

We are astounded at the current price of tickets to Indonesia......Still holding at August prices.....Speculation on oil futures?

I had numerous people ask me if I had to learn French when I moved to England. The whole thing where I said "England...English...England...English" never really helped them. The level of stupidity that some people possess really terrifies me.

hah!

i often get weird looks when i show my passport because it contains both english and french. one person working in a bar told me they couldn't understand it because it wasn't in english. umm...

Many passports, including US, have French inside.

is it in french on the information page?

Yes, and in Spanish also. Good call! Yet they could include other languages......

In English:

The Secretary of State of the United States of America hereby requests all whom it may concern to permit the citizen/national of the United States named herein to pass without delay or hindrance and in case of need to give all lawful aid and protection. in French:

The term "citizen/national" and its equivalent terms ("citoyen ou ressortissant"; "ciudadano o nacional") are in the message, because some people born in American Samoa, including Swains Island, are nationals but not citizens of the United States.

ah yeah, there's other languages in the front part of mine that throw people off, but it is the picture page that really confuse people. firstly it is at the back... all the titles are translated, "surname/nom" etc. the date of birth and the date of issue/expiry are in english and in french. "july/julliet" etc.
