So, who's gonna run the yet to be created department of socialism and re-distribution? Surely, there's gotta be a cabinet position for this priority that the right wing nuts have so impressively identified during the course of the campaign.

If BHO wanted to be strategic about things - he would nominate Senator Lieberman as a cabinet official (Sec. of State would be a good choice). This would get him out of the Senate and give the democrats a chance to get a "real" democrat in there. Alternatively, BHO could nominate a Republican. Let's face it - the political affiliation of the SOS hardly matters in terms of policy. They do what the prez says or end up resigning. Anyway - if he nominated a republican from a state where there was a chance of a democrat winning the vacant seat, AND from a state where vacancies are filled by special election, rather than appointment, he could increase the chances of getting the democrat 60 in the senate, and then be able to do practically anything he wants. It would be a good strategic move - and give him a claim of "reaching out across the aisle".

Would that qualify as a hand job or a head job?

Well, you have to give him something worth taking. I mean, he isn't going to go for some BS panzi position like Sec. of Labour or Education, or other #######. It's got to be a good one. There are not that many.

Justice: yes - but maybe not for Lieberman

Treasury: yes - but maybe not for Lieberman

Homeland Security: yes - but maybe not for Lieberman

Energy: maybe...maybe...but he would need some assurances to take it I think

Boston news reports that Senator Kerry is on the short list of Secretary of State possibilities.

I wouldn't let Lieberman park my car... he's a douchebag. Someone mentioned John Kerry and I wouldn't give him a position either. I don't know if this has ever been done before (i.e. when a democrat is elected after a republican or vice versa) but I would keep SecDef Gates on board. He's done a bang up job.
